am i allowed be cheeky and ask "what is the benefit of elasticated laces?". they might mean a quicker transition in a tri, but the shoe fit can't be as tight as the good old normal lace. in a 10km race i've not seen elasticated race used, unless its a tri person just doing a run.

Apart from being able to put your shoes on really quickly, there isn't much benefit. But if your game includes wanting to put your shoes on or off really quickly, they're great - saving the time and concentration needed to tie laces with your heart pumping in the middle of a race. Now I'm annoyed that I bought cycling shoes with little ratchet things that need a couple of pulls to tighten instead of a single velcro strap and that I don't cycle enough to warrant a second pair for tri races. I put the lock laces on one pair of runners that were half way through their life (for duathlon/triathlon) and I usually do a short run about once a week in them. I have them pretty tight, far more so than I thought would be right at first, but I adjusted them tighter after each of the first few runs. Once I'm running, I don't really notice much difference and I had a great run in 2 weeks ago in Athlone. But you're right, if you're running only, save your EUR6 and take the extra time to tension your laces correctly.

I started putting Lock Laces on my running shoes a few years ago. I love them. I have them on for all my training and races.
    I only do 4 duathlons a year.
