I know feck all about graphics cards and I never play games so I need your help. Looking for a laptop for someone else and they want to play Sims 3 on it.

What would be a cheap laptop to play Sims 3. She wants Vista aswell.

    Here are Sims 3 specs.

    Vista (Service Pack 1)
Pentium IV 2.4 GHz / Athlon XP 2400+
    2.0 GB Memory
    GeForce Go 6200 / Radeon mobile 9600
    128 MB Graphics RAM

Maybe i was a bit misleading in saying "any cheap laptop"

Obviously a 3-5 year old laptop would struggle but i'd stick by with pretty much any cheap laptop would play that quite easily.

It's the sims for goodness sake!

surely either of these even with their celeron processors and vista with 1g of ram could easily breeze that game!???

not a hope of it... it would be very frustrating to play with those specs.

A core2duo and a dedicated graphics card is a must

Yeah, i wouldn't touch those Hp's, woeful machines. Core 2 Duo, at least 2Gb of RAM and a dedicated graphics card would do it. And you should be able to get that fairly cheap these days.

Sweet spot would be something like Core 2/Turion 2Ghz with 2gb of ram and a HD3470/9300GS upwards for comfortable gameplay. Anything under will run but at levels so poor/ugly a 'new' laptop for playing said game couldn't be justified.

Heck, for the Sims 3, this is slight overkill. But good value for a laptop.
