Check with airline, but very unlikely to be allowed.

I think if they go into stowed luggage, you'll be ok. At least that was my experience with Ryanair at Christmas '08. I had them in my bike-bag, which went into oversize luggage, and no problems at all.

Kind of clashes with that article, but there it is!

They are prohibited. This doesn't mean that they will cause any problems but there you go. Personally I wouldn't risk my bike box being torn apart if someone happened to notice them on an XRay. As Zinn says there is a very small chance that they could do some damage in an emergency situation.

I put some in my bike bag when I went to Scotland with Dan Dare, I don't think your allowed but they were fine.

Looks like I got lucky, so. Don't think I'll be taking these on planes in the future!

Well the hold is pressurised so as long as it stays pressurised they should be fine... As Zinn says the reason they are banned is that there is a small chance that if they exploded in a bad place during a sudden decompression they could make an already bad emergency situation worse. I imagine they probably they wouldn't do any damage even then, but I guess they err on the side of caution with these things. Same reason you can't buy them from Wiggle BTW, they can't be shipped by air.

As you say, watching over-zealous baggage-checkers emptying the bike-bag onto the floor to get at the cans wouldn't be much fun! I think that would over-shadow any potential safety-concerns they might pose :pac:

I'm sure if you lubed them up sufficiently you could stow them in a hard to find place. I wonder whether that would set off the metal detectors?

Wait, is that the snap of latex gloves I hear?
