What will happen to Heidfield and Kubica

I see that http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_5458545,00.html is suggesting that Kubica will be off to replace Massa at Ferrari for the rest of the year. I can believe that.

It also suggests that this is the end of Heidfields career. I dont think this is the case. He had one good year against Kubica, one bad one last year, and this year he has had the upper hand ( ok the weight distribution of the car doesnt suit kubicas frame and weight )

I think the following teams would be interested in him Williams ( if Rosberg leaves), McLaren ( if they dont get Rosberg), Force India ( Replace Fisi ), Toyota ( replace Glock or Trulli . I think Glock is too many off days and Trulli is great if the car is to his liking but cant drive around problems), Honda (Replace Rubens), Renault (Replace Piquet)

With the testing ban, a driver with Heidfields experience if a very valuable asset for any team

I know theres alot there. Totoya is the least likely and Honda, Renault, and Force India are likely IMO. Comments please

Is BMW's withdrawl the end of Heidfields career 5 votes

Firstly, it should say is it the end of his F1 career!?

I certainly think he still has what it takes to win F1 GPs. Similar to Webber, a good driver, just never given a chance with a car that's able to match the front runners. In fact, I'd put Heidfeld as a stronger driver than Webber.

Kubica is an F1 race winner (can't remeber if Heidfeld has won any)...I could see this reason why Ferrari would poach him.

Heidfield would be a better replacement for Massa
Similar size as opposed to Kibica..
    Kubica + Kers = a No no

Sad to see BMW pull out, really shows how quick the big manufactures are willing to leave when times get tough and how valuable the smaller teams who stick around, are to the sport.

Do think that heidfield would be a good driver for a smaller team, very solid racer. With new teams next year maybe there'd be a place for him somewhere. Or if somebody buys the team, they might stick with him, like Brawn did with Jenson and Rubens

Kubica in a Ferrari would be very interesting. Heidfield might get a job with Renault when they fire Piquet, cause that's going to happen soon. He just hasn't adapted to F1.

Why do you keep saying Honda instead of Brawn?

    Old habits die hard!!

Its not as if caling the "Brawn" car a "Honda", is a massive mistake. It was Honda employees with Honda money that built and designed it and it would not be running this year without hondas support for 2009, but I take you point

James Allen seems to think he Heidfield will not be in F1 next year. http://www.itv-f1.com/Feature.aspx?Type=James_Allen&id=46513 . With the teams I outlined above PLUS the three new teams, I'd say you can bet your house he will be in F1 next year

Dont know much about James Allen. Read the MS book he wrote. He normally justifies his opinions which I like, but he didnt justify his opinion about Heidfield retiring. Think he will see the error of his ways when he does consider the whole picture.

Why do you not like him ? I am totally indifferent. Have no opinion on him, but I do enjoy reading his articles. Dont always agree with him

Smartest thing any of the new teams could do would be to sign Heidfield up.

Given a choice, I think they would go for Rosberg. German, younger, speasks loads of languages, and is a bit of a ladies man. He is a sponsors wet dream

Wouldn't mind seeing him in the Renault

Yeah, but here's the conundrum, BMW plan to complete the season and Renault may ditch Piquet before Valencia - I don't think Heidfield would be contractually in a position to race for another team until his contract runs out i.e. the end of the season.

Another thing is: Honda went out when the season was over, BMW are announcing this mid-season, so their drivers will be a bit edgy and looking for a job for next year, unlike Button and Barrichello last December who didn't have a clue until it was too late.
