While I know that most peoples lifes here will not be dramatically effected whether Carrigaline gets a cycle trak or not I just think it shows how the incompetence of government is holding our societal development to ransom............ meh

Reading between the lines it looks as though some of the elected officials are keen to divert the funding to something more likely to give them a short term popularity boost, rather than any consideration about long term infrastructure. The phrase 'ass-ways' sort of gave that one away.

    You have my sympathies.

As I read it, the conflict is between supposed requirements of cyclists and the people on the estates through which the cycle tracks will run. Local government bods are stuck in the middle and dithering.

I've seen this on my estate - people campaigning to have all the footpaths between neighbouring estates closed off to stop "undesirables", thus creating some sort of suburban fortress.

Never has  been more appropriate.

If the work is grant funded by central government I can't see why local councillors are objecting to the cost - who are they representing? Confusing.

Ms. Forde congratulated the council officials for “being on the ball” and securing the funding because the people of Carrigaline deserved nothing less, but was disappointed Douglas with a bigger population and more dangerous roads missed out.

No prizes for guessing where Ms. Forde lives:rolleyes:
She questioned the wisdom of spending well over €1m. on a cycle network at a time when people were losing their jobs and homes and some couldn’t afford to put food on the table.

*Ahem* That €1m would create local employment no? Employment for people who may have lost their jobs elsewhere in the construction industry? Would help pay their mortgages...put food on table...
