i use AVG, but recently paid and upgraded to the pro version. However, the free version is still very efecctive and probaly the best free anti-virus out there.

im using AVG free at the min, to be honist, I hate the web browser toolbar, so much, im not bothered to remove it (serisiously!!)

I would only use a software programme that doesent have a subscription.

if you dont wanna pay for security software (the ression!), use AVG free.

btw: sorry for the poor spellin, in a hurry !:D

i've had avg avast and avira and avira wins hands down.
avg is the most popular but imo comes in last on effectiveness

Why spend €60 odd euro on antivirus when you can avail of completely free alternatives that offer the same protection with the added bonus of not hogging your system resources or indeed adding on a load of so called "cool add-ons" like toolbars and spam that also infect your computer and slow you down even more!

My suggestions are AVG and Avast - Reliable, Free and they work!

I would recommend avast free, best real-time protection of all of them, plus no scheduled scans or updates, everything is automatic ....no muss no fuss

BTW the link in your sig isn't working.

Fair enough, some (not all) of the paid AV are better. But the free ones are usually sufficient. Of course you also need AntiSpyware, Firewall and don't do stupid things on your computer.

I've been using avira for two or three years, and have never had a problem with it.

    Much better than AVG imo.

And spybot will also come in handy.

Sounds like this money has more money than cents! LOL (notice the play on words.)
I strongly disagree in his concept...home owners should NEVER have to pay for virus protection....companies on the other hand might like a few more bells and whistles so they can pay the EXTRA euros to feel more at peace, if nothing else!:D

Im using comodo firewall and avast free version. Has kept my pc safe enough-though twice in the past year i had to do avast boot time scans to get rid of stubborn viruses.

Much better than norton 360 which i used to have. If you do decide to get paid software id advise you to try out a 30 day trial of kaspersky internet security 2010.
