"New" Sky viewing card faulty

Got the new Sky viewing card 3 weeks ago. Followed all instructions to changeover. Got a message "there is a problem with your viewing card, call broadcaster". So I did that and followed the instructions that the robot was reading off his screen. 7 times in total I have called. Initially I was told to put the old card back in so they could change back to it on their end. This seemly takes up to 48hrs and the box must be on standby for this time. 48hrs passed, another call, another 48hrs, another call and another 48hrs, I then requested to speak to the manager and I was told its not possible. I have now made several complaints to sky and the national consumer agency but still have no replies, no Sky TV and don't know where to go from here.

Does anybody have any ideas please?

Ring up and cancel, that will get them moving, when you get cancellations dept tell them why you are dumping them, I bet they will sort it for you, good luck.

Make sure you ask for a refund for the days without service too

I have a sky box. We paid subsription for about 2 years, but to be honest we did not watch it much. So I canceled. After the cancelation my daughter was playing with the viewing card. I turned on the box and there are loads of free channels. (BBC1, 2, 3, 4, CBEEBUIES, ITV, CH4, Channel 4 movie channel, CNN, movies for men, etc...) Its more that enough for me (well for free anyway)

I'm gonna threaten them with cancelling alright, and i'll take it as far as I have to, to get the refund. I'm 100% sure that a new card would sort it but for some reason they seem very evasive when i suggest it. Its the first time i've had trouble with them to be honest but their customer service is a joke, they haven't a clue and a lot of them are asians with very bad english, I've hung up out of frustration at one stage.

Out of curiousity, does your old Sky card work in your Sky box?

If it does work, continue to use it until you get onscreen messages asking you to change it.

...Don't waste your time.My new card didnt work, rang up 14 times over a 2 week period. They kept talking, saying they are sorting it,leave on standby fof 24 hours.Wasted so much time and money on phone to them...so frustrating.Been a loyal subscriber for over 8 years.

Told them last week I was cancelling, they asked why.Told them because it was because of the trouble I was having, and their customer service is substandard.

The cheek...after being without sky for a period of time for a reason which is their fault, they said they could send out an engineer to fix it....for a once of fee of €50...wtf!

Told them still cancelling, they said that it will take 31 days to cancel so will have to pay for one more month.Told them I shall not be paying for this month. They said there would be a debt on the account and they would chase it.I then informed them that I have not been receiving sky for some time and paying.Basically told them to go swing.

I will never ever ever ever subscribe to sky again.

    Rant over

No unfortunately, once the old card is inserted it says "please insert your new viewing card" ...the irony.

They tried to pull the engineer one on me too, all I need is a postman. New card=problem solved i'm certain of it. As a matter of interest, does anyone know why a new card is needed?

Engineer my ass....I'm an engineer. He aint gonna do anything different.Gimme a new card and it will work.Mercenaries they are cos they think they have a monopoly.UPC do a fine job by my reckonening.

I think they send out new viewing cards because they are constanly changing the encryption on their oh so precious channels.Look at UPC, they don't change their encryption, therefore cracked in no time...then widespread and abused.Sky change regularly to protect unlawful decryption of their content

I got this too - but before my cancellation kicked in - and I think what has happened is that the card is just working as a UK free to air card and you are getting all the UK free stuff. When I got the card sorted and my cancellation kicked in I was left with about 5 free channels. In hindsight if I had said nothing I would have been left with all the UK free to air stuff after my subs stopped.

What drew me to think it was working as a UK card was that my EPG did not even show RTE on ot - just UK stuff.

Have since got UPC in cause not bothered paying sky anymore. they rip us off with their inflated UK pricing yet charge us a UK VAT - if they wanna charge us UK VAT then I will pay them in sterling and not a sterling price + 30%.

Had the same problem and it was sorted in a single e-mail within 12 hours.

    click here https://mysky.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/skyhelpcentre/contactus/kana

    fill out all the details

simply tell them that the new sky card is not working.

They will then pair it up to your system. Wait a few hours and then replace the old card as normal.

Until then, just press "back up" on the remote to get regular viewing.

Here's the response I got - The english is all theirs!:D

    "Customer Account Number: xxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks for your email about problem experiencing with your new Viewing Card.

I'd firstly like to offer my sincere apologies for the inconvenience experienced by you in the recent past.

Having checked your account, I can see that your new viewing card has been recently send and you've to need paired it with your Standard box.

I've paired your new viewing card with your Standard box and send signals to your viewing services. It will effect from 10 to 24 hours."

Loads of places are offering to install the FreeSat system.

€69.99 will buy you a free to air box that you simply replace your sky box with. No further installation costs.

RTE / TV3 are not included, but a decent interal arial will get them.

I have had more or less the same problem

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/sky-sky/1046705-classic-runaround-sky-new-viewing-card-problem.html#post10032230

On these forums the prudent advice seems to be to email, but if you do phone insist on talking to Techical Dept. Otherwise a more complicated problem is less likely to be fixed by their Indian staff.

Anyway I will post another reply when I get the card.

Sky called me back yesterday and said they had issued a new card.
And unbelievably it came the next day, (this morning). And even more astonishingly it worked straight off.

So, in my opinion, it sounds as if the problem was your new card was also faulty and you need a new one. And if indeed that is the problem, you now know that they have to replace it, because there is no other solution.

    Hope this helps.
