Public Service Employee Problem

I work for the Public Service and recently i was transferred into another position, which i did not request and i did not protest, as because of personal circumstances.

Anyway, i was transferred into that post, as the person in it was temporary and was going out on sick leave and was believed they would not be back, as their contract was due to run out and it was thought of not been renewed.

I got word today, that person is due to come back and i could be moved else where. My question is can they do that to you in the public service, even though you are premanet and this person is temopary?

Looking for advice or what to do next, as can't just sit and wait, to see what happens. As have settled into this job and have started to like it.

Best bet is to speak to your supervisor and tell them you like where you currently are.

No guarantee you will stay there tho as they can do what they like!

Have a look at your contract. Most public service contracts nowadays have "Your initial assignment is to...xxx location", which means you can be moved around as per service requirements. I'm in the public service myself, and I reckon you'd better get used to this, cos greater flexibility amongst staff is whats going to be demanded in the future. Redeployment will be a regular occurrence. i was recently redeployed too, to a very very very boring job but I wont complain, because I could just as easily be on the dole.

Were you moved 'sideways' or were you 'acting up' or 'acting down'?

I know I am lucky to have a job with the current climate and my contract has inital assignment on it and i didn't complain, when i was moved, it's just that they have the power and make up their own rules to do what they like and look after whom they want.

as I was moved sideways, in order to facilate replacing this person, which i was told, permanet move. As the person was temporary and acting up in my grade. They got rid of my old job and Now this person is coming back and i'm been lead to believe that just want rid of me and come up with job else where for me.

You can get very dishearted working for the public serivce.

Well in the private sector, they'd have just got rid of you and not been responsible for finding you something else!
