Ok im hopfully going to be a first year in W.I.T in the next few weeks depending on results from the leaving cert:(.
After doing some research I realised that registration days and first day of lectures are all in the week which my brother has booked for his wedding:mad:...in cyprus:). Now he did book it like over a year ago so no blame on his part.

I rang the admissions office and the very nice lady told me that not to worry about the registration as it can be done on a later date, but just to inform them when I recive my registration pack in the post.
So im not to worried about the registration days but I wanted to ask a few people that have gone through first year in W.I.T.
-am I missing alot in the first few days?(im sure it depends alot on the course but just in general)
-should i consider coming home early or perhaps not going at all?
-Am i seriously worrying about nothing?

so please reply as im badly stuck!!

Though I hate to admit it I don't quite remember my first year in WIT!! :o)

I'd doubt you'll miss much, but then again I don't know what your course is. What date were you due to start? Is it actually a full week? If its only a couple of days I wouldn't worry. The first few days you'll miss the introductory notes and probably the names of books you may have to buy but you'll be able to get this info from the people in your class. Asking about what you missed may be an ice breaker for making friends in the class.

Oh I miss my days in WIT!! hahaha!!

Go to the wedding. The registration day you receive spam, sign up to a few Clubs & Socs, get your WITCard and some other craic. You can sort that out when you come back. The first week of college depends on the lecturer but usually its an introduction to the subjects, then they will begin. Sometimes though (its improved) you may be waiting for a good while to get a timetable, class room or even a lecturer. :)

First week is usually quiet the registration bit etc can be done no prob when ya come back, your timetable will be all over the place for the 1st week so your not going to be the only one missing out so no need to worry

go to the wedding! I do nursing, so i dont know about the rest of the departments but in the first week of college they are usually still trying to figure out timetables and deciding what to teach for the semester! so your not missing much. they kinda do a general overview of the 4 yrs in the first week. there always seems to be a good few free classes in the first week too with lecturers mixin up timetables and stuff. they are really good with family stuff so you'll have no problem at all. have fun in cyprus!:)

You won't miss much, meeting your course director and the awkward introductions. Maybe a recommended reading list or two... but nothing that can't be done in the 2nd week...

best of luck with the whole results thing xxx
