Jeep VS Mini

    Hey everyone,
I'm in the process of selling my 05 Mini One and am considering buying a 04 Jeep Cherokee with the proceeds of the sale.

I need a bigger vehicle, I play drums in a band and have a large dog so you can imagine trying to fit all that at once in a Mini!

I'm hoping to get around 11k for the Mini and have seen Jeep Cherokees going for around 10k.

I guess what I'm wondering is am I mad? Is this a good 'swap'?
Anyone have any experience with Jeep Cherokees?

    Thanks!

There would be plenty better options for €10k than Jeep. Not terrible reliable or good to drive and build is woeful. Haven't actually driven one myself but been a passanger.

If you need space and want a 4x4 have a look at a diesel X-Trail or something

thanks EPM, I should mention that I'm a bit of a sucker for the Jeep's styling, I think it looks quite cool, but yeah I'll definitly explore the other 4x4's..

If you only need the extra space for a drum kit and a dog and don't feel you could live with 2 seats don't ignore commercial 4 X 4s. "In the current climate" dealers can't give them away and you could be very surprised at what you might get for €10-€12k. Also go back a few years and see what might be out there.

Steer clear of the Jeep, you'll only regret it. They are possibly the biggest dungmaster i have ever driven. They give woeful amounts of trouble.

If I were you i'd look at something like a Focus van or Astra Sport Van. I'm a drummer myself and i can get all my gear into one.

If your not interested in a van, look at something like a diesel X Trail (as above) or even some form of an estate.

Thats cos it looks just like the Mini but bigger...

    True..

Would you guys rate the Land Rover Freelander as a better buy than the Jeep Cherokee?

Freelanders are absolute rubbish. Don't go near them unless it's for free.

Rav4 1.8 2WD a good idea, near-diesel fuel economy. only downside being a bit of torque steer, but nothing excessive. bullet proof mechanicals, good image and strong resale.

Wuss :) I used to get an 8x12 stack, head, 2 guitars, footboard, mike stand and box of leads/power supplies/mikes all in my MINI.

Jeep is complete rubbish. Can't contain it's own coolant or oil for more than 5 minutes.

I hope you have AA cover..........you'll need it.

What's the penalty for missing gigs, btw.. ??

Just buy a proper van - more useful, and cheaper.

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I once considered a Heep aswell...liked the way they looked but wouldn't have been able to live with the problems that come with them...

    Get a Hiace

    Well..I've owned a 00 2.5L Wrangler, 04 3.7L Cherokee, 02 4.7L Grand Cherokee and 05 2.7L D Grand Cherokee in my days and never had a day's trouble with any of them.

My brother in law has had an 05 Cherokee for the last two years and never had an issue.

I'd love to know how many of the people above giving their advice have actually owned one?????

I drive an 08 Jeep Patriot commercial - has never even blinked in a very quick 40k on the clock. Comfy, spacious and over 40mpg. Happy owner with no problems.

Brother drives an 04 Grand Cherokee and no probs either.

For some reason they've a bad rep in Ireland and I don't know why. Patriot beats lumps out of the Disco i used to drive too...

that's great to hear about the Cherokee, some solid owner reviews here too (plus the odd bad one)
