We have a Rangemaster Elan which is a 6 ring gas (i.e. lpg) cooker. The main ring (the big one and the one we use most) keeps going out after about 30 - 60 seconds after its lit. Sometimes it will light when the ignition switch and cooker switch are depressed but will go out when the cooker switch is released. The rest of the rings are working fine and I have a new bottle of gas so thats not the problem either. Naturally its outside the warranty period so before I have to go spending money to repair it, does anyone know what is wrong with this particular ring and why it keeps going out.

make sure that none of the small holes on the top of the burner are blocked and that it is sitting right on the burner body.there is a safety thermocouple fitted to each burner and this is why you have to hold the knob in for 10secs or so when lighting the burners.if the thermocouple cant sense the heat from the burner it wont allow the valve for that burner to stay on.sometimes its as simple as cleaning out the burner holes,if not you have a faulty thermocouple or gas valve which you will need to have replaced.

As unwyse wrote, but also each burner would have a injector which if blocked(normally from spillages) will effect the flame picture, you cannot go near the injector yourself, it's best to get someone in who's competent to have a look and show you what is safe to clean and what isn't,Gary.

The FFD safety device needs adjusting or replacing on the WOK burner. This is a common fault in Rangemaster. Most cooker manufacturers are plagued by these as they are a safety device which are mandatory in Ireland when fitting a gas cooker but not in the UK. They will probably claim you are the first all year . Regarding the warranty CF Quadrant Tel 6305757 are the agents for Rangemaster. The girl in the office only works mornings but is personable and quite helpful. They are slow in the Dublin Area dealing with calls outside they use local agents who can be a lot better. They have little interest in anything which is out of warranty which is sad for a premium brand which is AGA's little brother.
