I eventually have saved enough for a new purchase and I just want to ask round before I buy to see if anyone knows of any good deals to be had in stores/web or other.

    Thanks,
    Pete :D

I think the cheapest you'll find (unfortunately) is eBay. I was in Bermingham cameras and I think they said it was approx €1200 for the body only. If I recall correctly on eBay you'd pay around €800-€1000 delivered.

Thanks, I dont think I would trust ebay for something like that when it took me so long to save up. It would be my luck :(

Most of my stuff was bought on ebay, including Canon 300mm f/2.8 and Canon 1D MkIII. Some great savings to be made, if you buy from the right seller.

Other than that, look at Gunns (Dublin) or Calumet (Belfast).

You could get it on Amazon.co.uk for about 1k delivered.

I know Kerso had one of these for about stg£699 a month or so ago at his non-ebay prices. Really good and reputable seller too as others here will attest (got a 24-70L off him for a great price with no problems). I forget his msn off the top of my head but I'm sure someone else herewill be able to provide it

I would imagine it's because the 50D is the newest camera in the xxD line ? Maybe I'm missing the point of your question ?

Regarding the 40D v 50D question on a previous thread I had stated that I thought the 50D was better and that noise was not an issue.....However I recently shot an event under constantly changing light and I'm starting to notice that noise may be an issue after all.
This is surprising as I have used this camera to shoot a lot of events and only after this shoot did form this new opinion on the 50D.

Just something to bear in mind....

Got a 50d from keaphoto a few weeks ago.

Excellent service, ordered on Saturday and arrived on Tuesday morning.

I was also a little concerned by the reports of noise issues with the 50d. However, after putting the camera through its paces I have found the iq great.

Of course if you shoot at iso 3200 and print at 100% your gonna see alot of noise, but the same happens with the 5d & 40d.

    Have fun!!!

I agree kea are excellent and I also agree that the 50d is very good and in most cases better than the 40d - but in the case of high cropping the 40d is better at anything above iso 1000
