I used to own the R4 that that guy restored. Some job.

It really was a shed. I sold it to his brother in law back in 2002. When I asked him how much he spent on it he just laughed and coughed at the same time....I never got an answer :)

The Irish Times Motoring Supplement is only suitable for toilet paper.

It is about 50% adverts and 50% bad articles.

It is clear that no effort whatsoever goes into the production of the supplement.

The road tests always seem to consist of Michael McAleer describing some exotic location he has visited for the new cars' press launch. Killian Doyle is not a gifted nor talented columnist. The 'Helpdesk' is half-assed.

Oh well that is just as bad, except for Maurice Nelligan's column which is good. I think Killian Doyle usually writes for the Motoring supplement anyway.

I can vouch for that, it was indeed a shed! The restoration was fun though mainly because of the few number of parts on the car and when it was done, bombing down the motorway from Donegal to Dublin in the rain was a hoot :D

I have been reading this forum for years (in fact I link it from my own site) and have learnt a lot from the experienced car buffs here so thanks for that. It was nice to have my 5 minutes of fame in the paper after all the hard work

Well Im delighted to see how she turned out. Its probably better now than when it left the factory :D The guy I bought it off was thinking of sending it to the scrap yard  . Thank God I threw all natural sense and reason to the wind and parted with my 75 quid that evening. Once again fantastic job and all credit to you guys. PS Sorry I didnt make it to Mosney . Let me know where its next outing is. Im dying to see it in the metal again. Ed.

Fair play to you Adam - the fame is well deserved :)

I have an affection for the R4 myself. My dads first car was a sporty Austin Healy convertible and I travelled quite a bit in it (or so I was told - I was too young to remember). His next car was a brand new R4 and I remember our epic 3 day each way journeys to Spain in the early 70s on our holidays. My first rental car (the day after I passed my test) was an old R4 van with a dodgy choke :D

Now would you do us all a favour here by sharing your experience and contribute to this forum going forward? Much appreciated if you did!

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Good for you Bios, and best of luck in the future.

From one who has also ditched high flying desk driving, and albeit much poorer for the switch, returned to the tools and is now enjoying everyday :)
