Wondering if anyone has bought a charge adapter in order to get the iPhone 3gs to work with older accessories? My Pioneer head unit which works perfectly with 1st gen iPod touch will not charge my 3gs. So has anyone bought one? Where? How much? And did it work perfectly?

The Philips store on the corner of Georges Street has a boardsie special on rechargable battery packs - they include an adaptor that will allow older battery packs or car chargers to charge 3GS iphones

Cheers Ferris - have you got experience of these actually working?

I was pretty confident that the head unit would be ok with iPhone as it's less than a year old. Might have a look and see if it'll charge through the USB connection rather than the IP-BUS.

Edit - turns out there isn't a USB port at the back where I expected to find one - adapter is the only option so, besides forking out on another HU.

It works with battery packs - I have used philips and proporta with it in the last week
for the car head unit try using the original iphone cable rather than the panasonic one - aparently works for some people, I dont have a problem with my head unit, apart from the ocasional error message when plugging in, plugging in a second time seems to clear it.

Cool, thanks, unfortunately the Pioneer cable is not ipod/USB it's got a connection on the end called an IP-BUS. I have no idea why (other than promoting sales of their own cables) Pioneer would have used these ports rather than USB.

it may be worth checking to find out if the other end of the cable is actually a USB connector that would allow you to pop in an adaptor

    Otherwise try

I notice that the reviews for the two types of charge adaptors on the Apple Store mention that they don't work on Pioneer Head Units...

Was looking at this for my Daughters 4th gen Nano to use in a JBL On Time radio. This enables the Nano or a 3g iPhone to charge while being used (it plays ok now but doesn't charge)
Anyone know anywhere in town that might do these (Dublin). Does that Phillips one do the job I wonder and would it fit on the present dock socket on the JBL?

Hmmm - I have an iPod that lives in the car anyway - only bring it in to synch when I buy new music, that stays connected to the stereo most of the time, so I guess my main concern is really charging, best solution is probably just to get a separate car charger/holder and use the bluetooth audio streaming rather than the direct connection cable if I do want to listen to something that's only on my iPhone.
I see Pioneer's newer HU's have USB ports rather than that damned Ip-BUS thing too late for me mind.
