I have started Training for the Dublin half. I think I am fairly fit, I have been doing training once a week for the last few months. Which usually involves doing 400-800 metres intervals. I find that the training really pushes me. So far I have ran 2x 5k races on the road my last was just under 20mins. And I ran 9 miles over the weekend in 1hr 13mins, I found it easy enough until around the last mile when I pushed harder. I want to do my best possible time. Should I continue my hourly interval training and continue to run a 5k and a couple of 9miles run a week. Would anyone have an idea what I should be looking at time wise as a target for the Dublin Half?

    cheers

Based on your 5k time which is similar to mine, I reckon 1:32-1:35 is a nice target.
For the half distance your probably better of doing intervals in the 1000m-1600m range also try build up your 9 mile run by a mile a week, maybe get it to 15 and on occasion throw a few miles at predicted half marathon pace. The other session which I neglect often is the tempo, running at 10k-10 mile pace for 20-30 mins. Best of luck, there are others that know far more than me that will hopefully comment.

cheers mate, thanks for the info, Have never run on the road before, so this is all new to me, I think one thing that might be a problem is trying to get used to the pains in my legs. actually feel a bit of a pain in my groin today. 1.32-135 If i could do that I would be really pleased. not sure yet though as this is all new to me and I have only 2 months left I think. Have you ran 132-135 in a half marathon before?

Nope never raced one only ran one once to test an injury the week before a marathon. I've ran 69'18 for 10 miles though, theres a few lads around here with similar 5k times and 1:35 was there target for recent half marathons, you could also check this out
