    i've sent off my hunting licence application and expect a reply very soon but am wondering about a few things;

    i put a make and serial No. of a .22-250 which i was going to buy down on the form but i have changed my mind now- i'll probably buy a .243 or a 65-55,(from a different dealer) what's the story with changing my type of firearm on with the NPWS?

    also what's the story with applying to the gardai for a licence for a centrefire now with the 3 year licences coming in shortly? should i wait till my licence expires? ( i have a .22 magnum and a shotgun already) :confused:

    I'd go down and speak with the local FO and see what he thinks with regard to the rifle application. I'd call NPWS and see what they say about amending the details of the cert. You'll hopefully catch it and the serial and calibre can be altered over the phone. In much the same situation as yourself at the moment, waiting to see about applying for a rifle licence, so I'm going to speak to the FO as soon as I get a chance.

    I went in to the barracks last week about my rifle licence, was told they didn't even know what was going on and told me to come back in a week or two:(

    As far as I know there isn't a huge issue with the NPWS and the actual caliber gun you use, they just need to ensure it is of a suitable caliber 22-50 of greater to ensure the rifle is capable of killing the animal humanely. I would ask the NWPS deer licencing section on the change from one gun to another during the life of the licence. There's also little point in applying for a deer calibre rifle without having the deer licence issued first and included in the licence application to the guards.
