    Shamrock Rovers -v- Derry City

This game is going ahead on Sunday but we’re getting in early as there is early value to be had with Rovers @ 11/8. Once again this week Derry City have a nice headache of a European trip, to Bulgaria this time. The games are piling up for Derry at the moment while Rovers have been taking it easy with friendlies thrown in to take up some space for the fringe players. Rovers will have almost a week to prepare for this fixture. The Northerners must travel to Bulgaria and play in high temperatures and will have very little rest before facing the Dubliners. Rovers are on a nice little run at the moment which sees them in second place, 5 points clear of the candy stripes. Rovers haven’t been beaten in the league since May 1st at home to Bray. Currently they are unbeaten in 11 games, winning 7 and drawing 4. July has been a woeful month for Kenny’s men having drawing 1 and losing 3 whilst only managing to score in 1 of those games. These sides have met twice already this season with Derry coming out on top, winning 2-1 in Tallaght and drawing 0-0 in Derry. However, the Hoops have turned it around since then and everything points to a home win here in my opinion. 11/8 with Boyles is nice and I expect Rovers to go off closer to 11/10 come Sunday evening. 2-0 home win.

    Backing Rovers @ 11/8 (Boyles) 2pts.

We may as well use this as the League of Ireland thread for the forum. Can't believe Rovers are 11/8 to beat Derry. May back that myself.

    Thinking of:

Wexford, Bohs, Shels, Waterford, and Shamrock Rovers

5 teams, works out at about 8/1 with PP. Rovers pushes the bet up, they are in good form and Derry should have one eye on the return leg in the Europa Cup..I hope!

Looking at Cork heavy. What u think will they have a full team, or near enough, surely a win at 8/15.

Betfair have odds of nearly 4/5 for the Cork win, just if you do decide to go for it you may as well get some value! :)

Too late have it in a double for wknd, Dubs to win at 1/2 time in Kerry match, Cork City at 8/18, works out at 2/1. I just saw an update on there website Club seems to have come to an agreement with revenue commis and have organized a friendly with Celtic to balance the books.
City to win boys and I'm on my way.

Unders in the Shels game was always going to be a toughie at half time. Shels 2-0 up, with one goal a peno and both sides down to 10 men!

Fingal win well and looks like they are getting their arse in gear, unfortunately.

Cheers, was even sweeter because of Derry dominating the whole second half, a draw would have been a fair result.

For this weekend I've got a Fingal, UCD and Shels treble at about 3/1 and then also a Bohs and Drogs double at 7/1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,133 ✭✭✭hawaii501

my predictions this wk wud be
    UCD vs athlone @ 2/5
FINN HARPS vs limrick @ 6/5
    longford town vs SHELBOURNE @1/2

This works out at about 7/2 which isn't a bad price considering these UCD and SHELBOURNE are probably the 2 best in league playin poor oppostion.
My reason for backing FINN HARPS is due to there good home record and looking at limerick's away record which isn't very good, this is where i feel 6/5 is a good price.

Shels away to Longford @ 1/2 is no vaue.

I'm inclined to agree. Longford are well able to grab a goal and Shels' away scoring exploits have been unimpressive to say the least.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 732 ✭✭✭Famous45

On recent form Shels have lost 0 from the last 6 away games winning 4. Longford on the other hand at home have lost 3 from 6 and not scoring a whole lot. The figures point to an away win but only just, as said by applehunter there is no value in the odds of 8/15, a better and more importantly a safer bet would be a single on Shelbourne to win 1-0 at 9/2. If you have €90 on Shel's to win you would win pretty much the same amount if you had €10 on them to win 1-0 and in the process hanging on to an extra €80.

    Same reward and less risk.

Just one LOI bet for me this weekend:

Drogheda United to beat Shamrock Rovers 1-0.....9/1 with Paddy P.

Cant believe these odds, I was thinking 1-0 drogs might be 5 or 6/1..granted Rovers are flying but despite the odd blip the drogs defence have been good this season and we came close to beating Bohs 1-0 last week. 1 nil looks appealing as we havent been scoring many goals along the way. Gonna have some of that 9/1.

    Cork City -V- Shamrock Rovers

Just clicked on odds checker to see if there is any value on tomorrow night’s games and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I seen the price on the away win. 11/5 for Rovers to win with VC is massive value in my opinion. I wouldn’t have the Hoops any bigger than 13/8 - 7/4 to be honest. The Hoops are a massive 13 games unbeaten in the league now and are real title contenders at this stage. They have a huge amount of momentum behind them and any side in this league will find it hard to stop them. Cork City, meanwhile, have been in turmoil in recent months off the pitch and things will get worse soon enough when they will have to shed their wage bill even further. If the rest of the players are feeling just as half as angry as Joe Gamble then this could be a doddle for Rovers, from today’s Sun:

"I didnt just wake up one morning and think ah sure i'll give this a lash, if we go part time i'll have to leave it,s as simple as that. Maybe if i was 30 or 31 it world be different but im 27 so i should have four or five good years left. If i didnt have a daughter, a missus and a house then maybe id stay but i have commitments. I owe it to them to do the best i can for them, just like any other family man would . I signed a contract last year for three years and four weeks later its gone wrong. It's not worth the paper its written on. I WAS DUE SIX WEEKS WAGES ON THURSDAY AND I ONLY GOT 20 PER CENT OF A MONTH'S WAGES - WHAT F***ING LOYALTY IS THAT, THEY CAN F*** OFF AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED. You tell me anyone who will work for six weeks and get 20 per cent for a months wages"

Cork can be difficult place to go for the 3 points and this season the games there have been tight affairs, there’s been 11 league games there so far with City scoring just 8 and conceding only 6. However, Rovers are 6 points clear of them, they are the better side. Rovers are going forward while Cork are going back. The 11/5 is unbelievable value and I’m 100% certain you won’t get any price close to that tomorrow evening. Max bet for me. Rovers to win 2-0.

Backing Shamrock Rovers @ 11/5 (Victor Chandler) - 7.5 pts.

    Crumlin United -V- Waterford United

Cup weekends always bring up David v Goliath games and tomorrow night we have got the best one of the round. Crumlin played the role of David already in the previous round knocking out Shelbourne after a replay. However, those games were the worst from Shels by far this season and it could be argued that the Shels side on those occasions weren't even trying and took their opponents for granted. Since that game Crumlin have lost two of their best players and have joined Shelbourne in the past couple of weeks funnily enough. Crumlin are out of season while Waterford are bang in season and one of the form sides in the country. They themselves were involved in a David -V- Goliath fixture in the previous round. Waterford showed no mercy by running out 6-0 winners. Here's a bit of a write up from the WUFC website:

United have faced their fair share of potential non-league banana skins already this season, getting by Carrigaline United in the last round of this competition, and Douglas Hall, Clonmel Town and Rockmount in the Munster Senior Cup. Stephen Henderson’s men are not in the habit of taking anything for granted, and will prepare for this game as any other.
However, though they will be scrupulously professional in their approach to the match, the Blues must be considered strong favourites to progress. They are in fine form in recent games, winning their last five on the trot, and in Graham Cummins they have a striker in scintillating form right now. A brace at Kildare County last weekend makes it 13 goals in the last nine games, and 22 in all competitions this season. United also have an exceptional away record – in 15 competitive games away from the RSC this year, they have won 12 and lost only the once. That to Shelbourne in the league. Who were dumped out of the Cup by Crumlin…
Waterford have no suspensions to deal with, and the only injury worry is to midfielder Dave Warren, who limped off towards the end of the Kildare match with groin trouble, and has to be rated a slight doubt for Friday’s game.

    WUFC's manager's Quotes:

“We are on a roll right now, and our away record is brilliant to date.” “But we will prepare for that game [Crumlin] like every match we have played this season.” “We will not treat it any differently from any other game.”

Here's the results from the previous round in which it was league -V- non-league:

    Shelbourne 1-1 Crumlin United
    Shelbourne 0-1 Crumlin United
    U.C.D 3-1 Arklow Town
    Derry City 6-0 Ballymun United
    Bray Wanderers 2-1 Bluebell
    Bohemians 8-1 Mayfield United
    Cherry Orchard 2-2 Monaghan United
    Monaghan United 4-0Cherry Orchard
    Blarney 0-2 Sporting Fingal
Waterford United 6-0 Carrigaline United AFC

So apart from Shels and Monaghan's slight blip it has been pretty comprehensive that there is a big difference between the top divisions in Ireland to the non-league sides. Boyles go a massive 4/9 on a Waterford win here. They are looking into Crumlin's results into the Shels games too much I feel. I'd have Waterford at something like 1/3 or so, the 4/9 definetly won't last. I'm going to be a little bit more exotic and take the (-1) handicap @ 23/20.

    Backing Waterford United -1 @ 23/20 (Boyles) - 5pts.[/

I could mean €1 to you or €100 to another fella depending on your roll.
