I cant find my gun licence anywhere. Was going to leave it due to renewal in July but just found out that all licences are being extended for 3 months minimum. Thats a bit long to be chancing it.

Anyone know what to do? Thanks

it is not a major issue whether you lost it or just mislaid it, your firearms guard will issue you a copy no problem, you will also get a letter i believe granting your extension for three months so this may do also as i believe it will have your particulars on it, dont worry

your firearms guard will issue you a copy no problem,

Are you sure about that? I was told some years ago that they would not issue duplicate licences - unless things have changed recently?

Anyway, to the OP - I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you need to buy ammo or travel abroad. Have you got your European Firearms Passport? That should suffice.

Just rang the Guards and got the usual s**t "sure use your common sense sure there wont be anything done now for a few months sure we dont have a copy a that". I wanted to ask him to put that in writing so I could present it if asked by another member of the force, but I refrained. Will ring again tomorrow if that fails I will ask to speak to the super.

I agree with you. I wanted to get an ammendment in before this new licence. Looking at a new gun. Looks like I will have to wait 4 months for it now!

I've had a duplicate licence issued in the past but I'd say things are different at the moment.

they are unbelievable i am very lucky here, incredible FO, very efficient. they have you on record in the pulse so i cannot see the problem,i know it is an official document but at the end of the day it is only a piece of paper take note of date and time of call to garda, try and get his name, if going shooting take photo id with you, if stopped by garda it will only take a call to station with your name and date of birth to check your pulse and verify anything,if you have a second licence take down the pulse number and have it with you. otherwise dont worry about it.

I wrote all my gun details on the back of a business card and keep it in the see through window of my wallet, does fine for the RFD's for ammo.

Don't sweat over the loss. I lost mine at the start of last year around August  just after I got them.

Look up the CJB thread. New 3 year licence is coming in with staggered renewal dates. All current licences will be extended by at least 3 months to kick start staggering.

I put mine through the scanner on the computer......handy if they get wet, mislaid, etc......just print of a new copy.

All current licence holders should get a letter in the post in early august (I think) stating how long your currnet licence will be extended for. When you apply for new licence you will be applying for 3 year one. Remains to be seen how smooth this change over will go.
