Is my PS3 boned?

I've been getting my broadband from "Magnet" for the last five months, and have had no major problems, aside from the occasional disconnect. Over the last month or so, however, playing games online has become more and more difficult, and this last week it has proved, basically, impossible. Every time I try to sign into the PSN, I get one of a variety of error messages, and the few times it does successfully log in, it doesn't go past the "downloading game settings" stage(trying to play COD4).

Here's a sample of the error messages I've been getting just today:

    80028E01
    80710102
    80710092
    8002A548
    80710B23
    8002A401

I've looked up solutions to a bunch of these errors, but most recommendations, outside of what I've already done, suggest port forwarding and such, which is not possible with a Magnet router. Every other wireless device is working without issue.

Can I send the PS3 back to playstation and demand for it to be fixed, or is this strictly router related? Help me!

You can't port-forward on a Magnet router? God, that's restrictive!

Maybe try another router? I'd be inclined to think the issue lies with your wifi connection to router, rather than a PS3 fault...

Can you wire the ps3 to the router? Even just to see if its the wireless acting up?

Without meaning to cause offense, this is ridiculous. You are having network problems not "playstation" problems. Sony will not fulfill your request.

Do as requested. Connect your PS3 wired to the router. Any better?
I've never had Magnet so can't comment on their "Router that cannot be configured". Can a different router be connected?

/me shouts "OI. IS THERE A MAGNET REPRESENTATIVE AROUND?"

    EDIT : ********

    I found some links

This, I think I just got sick in my mouth, daisychaning routers endorsed by Magnet

/me shouts again "OI, MAGNET(RORY). CAN YOUR ROUTERS NOT BE USER CONFIGURED?"
    /me is not impressed
/me doesn't think he will be going anywhere near Magnet....

Edit 2 : ok, looking at some simple boards searching it's almost clear that users have no config control over their routers. Daisy chaining routers won't be an option either as the Magnet router will be the commander of pin holes. How long are you into your contract again? :(

Maybe I should clarify that "demanding Sony fix it" was a tongue-in-cheek way of asking if the PS3 itself was having the issues.

Yes, that was going to be my last resort(one person, a 50 inch tv, and a flight of stairs), but I limbered up and did just that this morning. Looks like the wireless is definitely the problem; there was no issue connecting, and online play itself was a lot smoother. At this point, it looks like I'll have to find a way to wire it up through ethernet permanently.

    Thanks for the help.

    Thanks for the help.

Woah there Nelly. Let's see if we can fix your problem before you start running unsightly wires.

Give us an idea of the landscape.

What's between the PS3 and Magnet Router [walls / ceilings / ten foot Granite / Microwave Ovans?]
What sort of distance is there between PS3 and Router?
Are there any other WIFI points detected by either your PS3 or Laptop [when laptop is close to router]

If there are other WIFI points detected, download and run NetStumbler on a laptop and see tell me what channels are being used by your wireless and other WIFI points. Let me know the signal strengths too. Maybe a screenshot will help.

Maybe a set of Homeplug network devices would solve your problem.

Plug one end near router, the other end near PS3. They use your electrical cables to transmit signals.

About 20 foot, and a door.

Now this is interesting. Definitely a possibility.
    Can we help?
If you have any ideas, yes, please.

It seems that the problem may have been less complex than I thought. Even without wiring the PS3 to the router, the wireless connection reads as being at 100% while in the same room as the router. In the room the PS3 usually occupies, it was struggling to break 12-15%. Since I rejigged the router and PS3 a little, I'm now getting in the region of 40% signal strength, and so far the problems have stopped.

We can give you a stronger wifi? Have you heard of the ruckus?

I have a magnet router and I have full access to uPnP, NAT, firewall, logging, etc...

However, I gave up helping people with NAT problems a long time ago. Its not rocket science, go figure it out.

Just to add - but probably unrelated at this stage.

I'm on Vodafone@home broadband and I too was getting the same errors when trying to login to the PSNetwork.

I ended up changing my DNS to the OpenDNS servers (as there was trouble a couple of weeks back with Vodafone's DNS) and I'm back up and running with no issues.

Well, the problem has been fixed just by repositioning my router and PS3, but stronger wifi wouldn't hurt. I'm guessing "the ruckus" is a router, and not a series of complaints made about Magnet's poor signal strength? If so: how much does it cost? I don't see anything on the site about it.

Its 7.50 a month and it also supports the PCTV over wireless. Send me a PM with your details and I can get one of the guys to contact you.

We might have complaints (like every other ISP)....but at least we listen to them;)
