Slayer and Megadeth co-headlining festivals in Australia. I wonder how long before a tour takes them back to Ireland. I remember seeing them in the SFX a few years back. Absolutely awesome. My ears are still ringing.

New album seems to be shaping up to be a great one :D

Really like this song. hope the rest of the record is as good

Heres the first song released a few months back incase people have yet to hear it

    :pac:

World Painted Blood is set to be released "Late Summer of 2009"
I hope to christ they arent the final mixes, they sound so flat that the songs themselves are made dull as hell.

I think they sound good. Don't have any problems with it myself.
It's being mixed by the same guy who did Death Magnetic. Also Being produced by Rick Rubin

im liking these two... had heard psycopathy red a few months back but the other one is a new one on me tonight... very impressed. Sounds similar to christ illusion.

This is another reason i will always rock out to slayer. There is absolutley no risk (pun intended :p) of a bad album in the line of st anger, or risk etc. These guys will continue to make solid records as long as they want to.

As it is Slayer, I would doubt if "Christ" will help you much! ;)

I like the song in the second video. I'm not so fond of the first one...

There last 2 albums while solid never really pushed the boundaries or tried anything new. Remember when I heard Reign in Blood for the first time - or Dead Skin Mask, Seasons... all very original. I fear Slayer are thrash by numbers now. Also they were ****e in Cork a few years ago!

thats the great thing about slayer tthat they dont change what they do,a bit of guitar sound changes but nothing major or sell out for the money theyve always done what they started out doing and thats why the fans and fanatics like me keep on coming back for more .unlike the likes of metallica ,seputura and many more who just went to sh**e after the 80's early 90's,and have lost a good heap of fans after seeing slayer about 8 times in my lifteime in diffrent periods of there music i cant say ive ever seen them play anything but amazing ,im sure theyve had some dodgey gigs along the way but who hasnt your bound to have some nights being tired or hungover on a world tour

or sell out for the money

You crazy kids need to get over the "selling out" bit. It's a band called Slayer who pry on the idea of satan and satanic imagery to "shock" people with their heavy music. Don't for a second think they're not marketing themselves.

I would much rather Slayer "sold out" if it meant I got to hear them push their talents more and stop making albums that all sound the same. Bar changing some tuning, tones and buying new effects pedals, every single song on the last 3 albums have been the same routine. It's annoying. At least Metallica, for all their failures, have tried to do something different with what they do.

I've seen them live a few times and it's always a good show, but that's one night in the course of a tour. I'd rather spend the rest of my time enjoying their new material, instead of relying on their old material to justify my enjoyment of them in the first place.

first of all i aint no kid been a fan of this band since i was 10 ,im now 12 ha ha ha no 29 now and still havent lost the time for slayer still my all time fave band,if ya wanna sell out fair enough, ive more respect for bands who can keep there music and their dignity and still make great albums that are what i want too hear ,music that got me into the band, unlike these other bands that start out great and then compltely change next album.acdc are another classic like that ,all the albums nearly sound the same but they are just classic and have no bad albums. thats what slayer they started doing thats what got them where they are thats why they are who they are and still have the same respect and praise they do.metalica are just a big load of rubbish these days they had their own unique sound back in the day but just gave up on it, the only change in slayer id like to hear is the solos being more like the old albums ,

Thing is with Slayer is you can always rely on them to release a fast, aggressive thrash album, sure the last few albums weren't exactly pushing the boundaries but they were pretty solid.

But do we really need another Slayer album that is solid or decent? AC/DC might have "no bad albums" but they have a hell of a lot of albums that really don't inspire either. I agree with the poster who says that if Slayer selling out meant that they came up with something original (again see Dead Skin Mask for example) instead of head down riffing a few squiggly guitars and death and blood out the ying yang - how bad?
Slayer are serious musicians I would love them to slow it down and dirty, a bit of dark ambient or sludge or doom thrown in for a change - they did plenty of this circa hell Awaits so it is hardly selling out.
And btw lets stop this Metallica comparison - those dudes lost their way a looong time ago.

maybe a little change like wouldnt be too bad ,but id lose respect if they completly changed and for all the wrong reasons .also i dont think there ever was or ever will be any comparison between the two ,i was just saying that they have no reason to sell out theyve made there huge fanbase because of the way they are and the fans still come back for more ,so they dont need to do anything rash

I take it you didn't listen to Diabolus In Musica... They did it with that album and were slated for it. God Hates Us All was Slayer getting back to their roots so to speak.

Not directed at anyone in particular but you can't have your cake and eat it nor can they please everyone.

If they made a record that turned out to be a complete departure from all their previous offerings there'd be uproar from their hardcore fanbase, no matter how good it was.

If they continue on the way they're going and put out another 'same old stuff' album they'll be slated by a wider audience for lack of inventiveness and just putting out, well, the same old stuff re-hashed.

The only way they can please everyone is to make another outright classic, question is do they have it in them to create such a beast?

Oh and just for the record I'd be happy with another good old Slayer album :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,658 ✭✭✭Patricide

Yeah, i still love diabolus but a lot of people werent too keen on it whatsoever. God hates us all i think is stil there best in a long time. The lyrics are pure hatred put into a machine and printed into words, Im more of a fan of bostaphs drumming and another thing is that album actually has guitar tone.

I was hoping for more of the same on christ illusion but slayer took a major step backwards imo, reverting to the basic slayer formula. I know its better than them selling out but cmon they had proved that they didnt need to be this static band with GHUA.

i pretty much like all the albums ,i really liked diabolus they do throw a little something new each time ,im a big thrash fan and slayer are still banging out what i want to hear good aul thrash .even most of the other 80's thrash bands have changed too much and modernised themselves the last two albums where proper whopper ,i dunno if i can name another band from then who has kept to what they started doing .there proly is i just cant think of one off the top of my noggin

I love that album! Didn't realise they were slated for it though!?
There were some great contrasts in the songs and the riffs were heavier than they've done in years.

I find it hard to listen to the likes of Christ Illusion and it's because of Tom's vocals.

I'm a huge fan of Slayer, but, it's post Seasons' that I run into difficulty listening to their albums.

Being honest I have never really given GHUS & Diabolus much of a chance. I must dust them off and give it another lash.

Got this tonight. On first listen, sounds very like christ illusion. The second last song however, playing with dolls, starts off with an almost techno beat ??. My favourite song would be "not of this god"

sooo... uh - anyone else checked out the leak?

as a Slayer fan who's seen em 8 times around the globe.. yes the SFX shows were the best - n can probably vouch for them having most impact on my persona across the genres i can safely say they should have put some truly good material in a time capsule back in the day labelled 'do not record until 2009'

indeed they should have probably finished their recording career after GHUA, was such a solid album after the disappointment of Diaboluc em Musica. but see what it did? reignited their careers and now they insist on going out with a whimper. tracks are weak and lyrically dire as the titles suggest, sadly theres not even a Jihad or Eyes of the Insane here. World Painted Blood is ok, but its the opener. on a Slayer album; what do you expect. it is not even fast as the excuse for their average stuff on Christ Illusion. Playing With Dolls sounds like collaborating with barbie.. oh, the deranged mind of genius jeff. theyr done for after this; tarnished their rep irreparably.

farewell Slayer, enjoy your grammy it destroyed you. and DON'T do this stuff live. -bar the opener

EDIT: only joking it rips :D
