    Hey all,

We got the engineer to record our last gig onto a Sony minidisk, we're tryin to get the audio off the disk. I was wondering if there is any way to do this over the firewire or does it have to be a mini jack to mic input on my mac?

The sound quality of the rec was amazing and I'd hate to lose the quality.

    Thanks

I have a Sony MD myself. That one used a USB - Think it was one of the HiMD models.. Definitely one of the last ones available.

Had a bit of a time trying to get it to work the way I wanted.

Sony had their own formats.. they really made it hard for people to use as they were trying to stick copy protection on everything.

They've got .oma .omg and atrac3

If you can hook it up to the computer, you might be able to view the file as an .oma or .omg

If you get the Sony .Wav converter program from the net.. you might be able to make a one time .omg to .wav conversion.

Be v.careful before you do anything. Read about the process of importing files from your MD.

They will nomally only allow a one time transfer / conversion. I forget which one it is - .oma or .omg - but whichever one is the format of the users own recordings, that gets converted into the "copyprotected" version once it gets into Sonic Stage..

Oh Yeah.. You'll need Sonic Stage too.

And if memory serves me correct.. the WAV converter only works with Sonic Stage v.2 or something. Its been a v.long time since I've used it so I cannot really recall how it works.

Hope that helped Mate.. Apologies I cannot be more specific.

I think NetMD players have a USB connection. Not sure how the transfer works and what software to use. Probably Sony Sonicstage. I've never seen a NetMD player with FireWire. Alternatively you could check to see if you're MD player has an optical output. If you're computer has an optical input too you could pick up a cable like this and record into your computer digitally. No quality loss.

I used a Sony Hi-MD miniDisk recorder for several years and it had USB coupled with the facility to export to .wav directly from within the Sonicstage software. All quite easy.
