    Hi folks

myself and my fiancee are getting married in dubrovnik next May. we will be having a religious ceremony and also be getting legally married over there aswell. im aware of what documents we need for the marriage to be legal effected but what extra is required for the religious part?

do we need to get documents from our local parish priests and do we need to do the pre marriage course, or can we by pass that stuff?

    cheers

It depends more on what the priest that's celebrating the mass says, not what the priest here says. Some priests don't care about the pre-marriage course, some do. By the way, they're not all as bad as you might think - if you do have to do it, you may get more out of it than you think.

You might need to get letters of freedom from the parishes you've lived in since you're 18, and then your current PP fills out some form, but can't remember what it's called.

You really need to check with who's actually celebrating the mass though.

Yep. The letters of freedom are dead easy - just write to the parishes you lived in since you were 18 and they'll post them out to you.

I think it's called a pre-nuptial enquiry form, which you fill out with your PP. You might also need baptismal and confirmation certs.

As I said, don't be put off if you need to attend a pre-marriage course. I was hesitant myself, but it was actually quite practical in many parts, and it didn't even have that much of a religious overtone. We went to the one near Baker's corner which should be handy for you. It was a Friday evening and all day Saturday. It was given by married couples, not a priest.

But deffo check with the wedding planner what you will need as it differs from priest to priest. If the priest doesn't know you personally, then the chances are that you will need to jump through all the hoops.
