Make sure you have VPI and VCI the right way around.

100% absolutely forget about getting wireless working. Get it working with wired first. That's 99% of the problem. You are complicating things by getting wireless internet working through your router especially if you are not 100% confident in what you are doing.

ok im going wired at the moment
    im on the http://192.168.1.1/
    to configure the router
it says to enter the static info from your isp
    it is as follows:

VPI (i have it as) 8
VCI (i have it as) 35
    IP ADRESSS
    SUBNET MASK
    ISP GATEWAY ADRESS
    PRIMARY DNS ADRESS
    SECONDARY DNS ADRESS
    CONECTION TYPE: Pick Either...... IPoA
    1483 Routed IP LLC VC-Mux
    1483 Routed IP LLC
    1483 Bridged IP VC-Mux
    1483 Bridged IP LCC

All this information is in the link by jor el. Have a quick look.

EDIT : Connection type should be PPPOE in your list.

i'm with Smart Telecom and when I was setting up a wireless router, I remember I had to fill in a username and password. The username is your phone number and the password consists on 12 letters.
This was posted out to you when you signed up to Smart Broadband.

Do you have those filled in? I never worked with a Buffalo router so I wouldn't know exactly where to fill them in.

in the link are they under different names because its not the same as above.
    also
there is no PPPOE option though
    just :
    IPoA
    1483 Routed IP LLC VC-Mux
    1483 Routed IP LLC
    1483 Bridged IP VC-Mux
    1483 Bridged IP LCC

as for the password etc at the moment it seems to be admin for both
i havnt needed my phone number at all
do you think i need it?

That's a problem, as you're going to need that.

Then you're not looking at the right config page yet. The Admin name and password is just to access the router. your DSL connection has a username and password that you have to fill in. The username is the phone number, including your area code, and the password is on your welcome letter from Smart.

You will get asked for your username [phone number] and password when you select PPPOE connection type.

If you don't have PPPOE, then I don't know where to go next. I've never heard of this happen before for an ADSL router, seriously.

ok i managed to get the PPPoE setting on it

i inputed my phone number along with given password into the wizzard
which almost does everything automatically from there

i still cant get in the net though
    its connection status stays at
    "waiting for a response"

    any more ideas?
