PA for a medium sized venue

I'm shopping around for a full PA setup for a venue measuring roughly 7M X 21M. The stage will be just 6 inches high and 7M X 3M. The roof's pretty low at about 3M. The place holds 150 punters comfortably.

Anyway. Just back from xmusic and was looking at this:

    http://www.k-array.com/?page=Red_line

Very clear sound and some serious umph out of it. It rates at 2K. Full 360 degree sound out of it so really all I need on the stage would be a vocal monitor and maybe one for the drummer....

Music in the venue has ranged from punk/metal, to ska, to acoustic.

They quoted me €5,900 for the PA alone.

Any opionions? Am I aiming too high with that rig? It's easily transportable so I can hire it out to other venues to help pay off the loan I'd need to take out for it.

    Cheers

Sorry mate, but that post doesn't actually address anything I asked. I'm not looking for a new source for the gear.

2k might be a bit light for punk/metal though I suppose it does depend on the speaker efficiency and how lively the room is.
A room dampened with carpet and soft furnishing will 'soak up' a lot of power.

I don't think there will be much headroom left i.e. it will be running close to 100 % all the time.

I also don't think ' full 360 degree sound' is correct .... or desirable.

Your link is just to a 12 inch bass bin .

If you check half way down the page you'll see the speaker mounted on the bass bin.

The floor in the venue is wooden. A 600 watt PA with no bins has been used for vocals alone to date and fills the room over drums/amps quite well.

More does not always = better. If you want the very best advice, get a professional to come in and see your room ffs, not a sales person motivated purely by whatever the biggest markup is in a given month.

If it's for Punk and you are planning mic'ing up double kicks, massive bass and guitar rigs then you'd wanna add a digit to your budget to do it adequately, even then there's no guarantee you will not blow a driver every other week with that kind of source material.

Already it sounds like the weakest point in your system is the person running it, so your investment will be money down the toilet I'm afraid.

If thats the case id invest in 2 Nexo PS15s and a Vortex amp for less than 6k.

That PA sounds a bit gimmicky with built in DSP modes and I wouldn't say those tops are up to much.

As I said, I'm only shopping around. I should have probably pointed out that I don't actually do sound in the place. I was just told by the guy that usually does it that a 1K rig with bins would probably do the job.

Ideally the guitar amps (if they're actually mic'd at all) would be kept relatively low to let the sound man control the front of house sound so I'd like to think that whatever system I do end up splashing on will be able to handle it.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback lads. I'll take a look around for those models you mentioned, Clank.
