would the average connection in ireland be good enough for uniterrupted streaming there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 163 ✭✭menuisier

well two weeks ago i was using tethering on my laptop to steam spotify at a party worked fine the only problem was changing songs there was a bit of lag since the upload speed is so bad.

hard to see Apple letting this one through - its an Itunes killer. I have Spotify on my PC and it is phenomenal - if I could have it on the move, I'd never pay for another download.

I've been interested in trying Spotify but not being able to try it out in this country has put me off. Is it worth the €10 a month?

So wait, they won't let you try the product here but if you want to sign up they'll let you?!

Spotify coming to the IPhone is like the IPlayer app for the IPhone, pointlessly annoying if you're in Ireland. Looks great, probably works great but you can't get it here.

i am a member of spotify here in ireland. originally i paid the 10e a month about an hour later i figured out that if you sign up through an english proxy you can get the free account and for some reason its the premium account i.e no adds and it is not because i had a premium account at one stage i setup a few free accounts independent of each other.

once you have an account you can use the service here in ireland. if you cant find an english proxy ask someone you know in one of the countries the free service is still running to create an account for you and just download the software and sign in.

Sweet, that worked! I used defilter.co.uk to register.

Edit: Not a premium account though, or at least it still shows "get premium" up the top. Any idea?

It's hardly an iTunes killer - what happens when you are on the likes of an aeroplane with no network connection?

I am a big fan of Spotify and would certainly love to see it on the iPhone. Along with Yahoo music, I should have all my musical needs covered.

Pity Last.fm went subscription, I really enjoyed it too.

I found that after a while of using Spotify it ran some manner of IP check and told me I was in a different location to the one I had specified when signing up and gave me 14 days before it shut down my account.

Any way around this do you know?

I got that message, changed my profile to Ireland and I was good to go. I somehow think the iPhone app will be blocked in Ireland like the last.fm one because of the record companies' incompetance.

The plan is Spotify will allow you to download tunes to your ipod so you can play them offline later on with no network connection.

I honestly can't see Apple approving this unless they're gettign a cut out of Spotify.
Remember only premium users can downloader to their ipod etc which is €13 a month.
It really is a fantastic app...if the bloody music industry really got onboard this could actually kill music piracy..I mean..why bother downloading it when you can legally without any worries or comeback.

I think 7-digital are Spotify's partners - direct competitors to iTunes. Plus, most of their songs are actually DRM free, which is why I use them all the time when purchasing music.

Can anyone confirm the free premium account thing?

Yes, I can. There is a discussion over on the Music forum somewhere regarding the premium option that worked for a few people. Don't recall where, but do a search.

That's where I got my invite to Spotify for the free account, using a UK proxy.

    daveproxy.co.uk is your friend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭Easy Rider

It is 9.99 euro a month not 13 euro...secondly if you want to get the free service simply use the UK Proxy, then when you get the message on the top change your location to Ireland..simple...

Anyway, I don't have an iPhone but want to get an Android OS phone, that will have spotify soon also, so if Apple don't approve it people could well decide to switch or those who are thinking of purchasing either will get an Android phone....

You have to be premium to use the app, finally you can sync your playlists to take offline when you have no network coverage....I would pay for that no problem..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

I read you can save 3333 songs for offline playback. I think I'd rather pay €9.99 a month (or even every few months on/off, as I can quit the subscription whenever I want) for 3333 songs on my Touch rather than paying for each song.

Here's a video of the app in action. Looks nice:

You must enter www.spotify.com, so if you've been trying spotify.com it won't work.

Edit : Just tried it myself, getting a time-out. Strange. Maybe spotify copped it.

Sorry to ask the obvious question but, how legit is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,628 ✭✭✭barry181091

They do have a legal battle going on I think, but its pretty legal and they are also coming out with an IPhone app. You can't download any tracks, but sure while its up who cares how legal it is :P

It's only when registering that you need to use a proxy I think. Im using it now without any proxies.
