Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 Crashes PC

I put this in a security forum because I have some serious problems with the way Kaspersky is blaming customers PCs for their faulty software and insist on gathering data from your PC in order to give you a "fix". What is the nature of their software that it is so sensitive and are the contents of your PC now up for analysis by software providers. I have seen their forum staff commenting on Bittorrent, accusing the customer of piracy indirectly because they have it, and insisting that applications be removed.

I am concerned that this is a new wave of software censorship and security that means if you are going to want a big name anti virus or other software, you better have only applications they approve of.

I just got Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 11 days ago.

    It doesn't work.

It hangs during a full scan and a quick scan.
It doesn't allow you to switch it off using Task Manager.
It freezes the entire PC requiring a plug-it-out scenario.

Kaspersky are blaming customers other software for causing these conflicts and insist you send them some file with a breakdown of everything on your computer. This is rubbish, how come BitDefender, Trend Micro and all the others don't have this?

I contacted Kaspersky, stating that I have no intention of sending any file, the problem is obviously their crapware, and that if they can't send me a patch that fixes it I want my money back.

    Here's the reply:
    2009.07.27, 13:58 - Darrel Rendell:

    Hello,

The software functions perfectly fine on hundreds of millions of users around the world, I'm sorry the same cannot be said for your machine.

Sadly, without any information (which does not include any personal data) we cannot help you.

It would be worth contacting Digital River our reseller directly, they can issue you a refund without delay.

the email address is below .

    kaspersky.uk.cs@digitalriver.com

Their own support forums are crammed with people with the same problem and always the same reply, it's not our software it's your machine.

Google 'Kaspersky Crashes' and see for yourself

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 530, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2Gb of Ram and not much else on it bar internet and Paint Shop Pro. Windows Vista Home Basic.
It's a good enough spec and a modern enough machine that I shouldn't have any problems, yet here it is wrecked because of Crapersky.

DON'T BUY KASPERSKY - THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY, SELL YOU CRAPWARE AND DON'T SUPPORT IT.

I just uninstalled Kaspersky (all €112 of it, 3 PC 2 yr licence and they only deal in sterling for Ireland, even thought they sell in Euro the swindlers)

I've installed BitDefender Total Security 2009 and all my problems have disappeared. No freezing, no max RAM, no unexplained internet traffic.

I am wondering if there is some form of phishing going on?
An internet security software provider is in an ideal position, plus there's always the Russian question.

Hope these posts help you before you get caught out like I did.

So to summarise, you bought Kaspersky, there was a problem :(, you asked for help, they said fine no bother, sends us your system config to troubleshoot.. you said "no way" you stinkin russians, send me a software patch for a problem i can't describe on a random laptop, they said were not really able to help you there sir, you said give me a "refund" and i am going to tell everyone on boards.ie, they said ok.

Sounds fair enough to me... :)
Google 'Kaspersky Crashes' and see for yourself
maybe you should google "bitdefender crashes" and see for yourself ;)

anyway they use Jackie Chan to help them fight off the viruses, so its your loss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbRSQVsOX_Y

Of course they need system details, every PC is different. I've been running Kaspersky on 3 different machines now for over a year without a single issue. All 3 are used for very different purposes with differing OS/hardware/software etc. I'm not saying you don't have a legitimate issue but you can't expect them to wave a magic wand.
Funnily enough I replaced Bitdefender with Kaspersky as the former was slow and extremely flakey on every system (CP would stop working for days, different components would enable and disable at random, the AV engine itself was decent but the other components were not up to standard).

Anyway this isn't really the forum for this, http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1009 .

Currently running KIS2009 without any problems. Runs faster than earlier versions and with fewer alerts. Have used Kaspersky for about 3 years now with no issues. Cannot say that for earlier versions of Norton, McAfee, or TrendMicro, where they chewed up my capacity, or had other issues.

Also found the Kaspersky forum to be very informative, and responsive to a couple questions I had. Have not run KIS2010 so I cannot speak from experience regarding that upgrade. Plan to upgrade in late November, so if there are any bugs in the new version, they should be worked out?
