whinning noise

yesterday i started the car and there was a whinning noise comming from under the bonnet. i drove the car about 300 metres and it seemed to louder as a speeded up. so i turned off the car and had to started the car 3 times and the noise went. could this be the water pump its never been changed. have just gone over 106,000…

Alternator bearing is my guess, or could be the fan belt.

Watepump, alternator, fuel pump (depends on where it is), air con motor, fan belt, cat trapped in engine, Enda kenny hiding under bonet, power steering motor or pump.

Red or white??

Could be a number of things. Could even be a timing belt tensioner.
