According to this fine lady a bit of incest sorted that problem out:

it's a funny video btw, well worth a watch.

Simple. Adam locked Eve, Cane and Able in his basement and forced them all to have sex with each other so we're all the incestuous offspring of the original Josef Fritzl

Guys, it is quite simple. Adam and Eve were perfect, genetically speaking. So there children were also genetically perfect. As they were genetically perfect they were able to breed without fear of genetic mutation, though it is still fairly creepy.

Obviously mans inherent wickedness, which caused the fall, allowed the genetic perfection to be corrupted which accounts for why we can't breed with our siblings anymore.

Seriously guys, all this stuff is in the bible.

    Or it never actually happened?

I think they mean how did two boys have a child rather than just simple incest?

It's fairly obvious that one of the boys had his mother at some stage. Complicated stuff, religion.

Don't be silly... They reproduced with their sisters... It's just that girls aren't important enough to god to record their birth... They are nameless faceless brood chambers for the seed of Adam.

That's a bit over the top...

I've always be interested why there isn't an answer for this in the Bible.

The ancient people who came up with these oral stories were superstitious and ignorant of things like biology but probably not that stupid that they would never pounder this question, so it is some what surprising that a more iron clad explanation didn't seep into the stories over time.

But weren't Cain and Able born after Adam and Eve were booted out of the Garden of Eden?...ergo they were already corrupted, by the logic of your argument.

I forget the exact details, but I'm willing to bet whatever 'science' they try to pass off in the movie is much more sound than the reasoning we find in Genesis.

Supposedly Christians believe that our genes got weaker with each successive generation after Adam and Eve, so being fresh from the garden Adam and Eve still had relatively perfect genes. I think I remember hearing that this was the reason why early humans could live for hundreds of years (i.e. Methuselah), and that the incest taboo only came about when we reached a level of imperfection where successive generations bred from incest would show genetic mutations and abnormalities.

So basically we are evolving into the X-men?

lol... no well I was talking about why they believe incest is a taboo now and not then for Adam and Eve. In their minds incest only became something wrong when we'd reached a level of imperfection that sleeping with close relatives would lead to genetic abnormalities in our offspring.

While it's not directly expressed, the idea is that Adam and Eve had daughters too over the 700 years or so that they were alive. So they didn't screw their mother, only their sisters. MUCH better

I really enjoy the contorted ends to which creationists will go to make the bible fit with modern scientific knowledge. It gets better and better. The fun thing is that we know that much more knowledge is on its way ... I just wonder what the breaking point of the biblical storytellers is. you know, will they one day go "ah fcuk it there's just no way I can twist this any further"????

Some traditions have Adam having another partner a demon called Lillith

So I can legitimately tell people I'm descended from a Mesopotamian Storm Demon?

    Awesome.

Like, I was already telling people that but now it's for real.

Eh! The bible talked about perfect genetics and the concept of genes? I know I dozed off any time I attempted to read the bible (and your man begat your other man etc...), but I obviously missed these bits.

I think you need one of these (though to be fair, with creationists muddying the water its often hard to tell without specialist equipment)

Yup there goes there goes the neighbourhood

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naamah_(demon)
In Genesis 4:22, the NIV states: “Lamech married two women, one named Adah and the other Zillah…. Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of bronze and iron. Tubal-Cain's sister was Naamah.”[1] Although this Lamech is said to be a descendant of Cain, he has sometimes been confused with Lamech among the descendants of Seth, an ancestor of Noah.

^ That one I knew about!

Yes I'm aware it is traditionally a female name, but it's old and obscure enough to do anything I want with.

Godzillah but the God is always silent.

Angels and demons are androgynous and dont have a gender.

In Mel Gibsons the Passion of the Christ Satan was played by the Italian Actress Rosalinda Celentano with a shaven head for that reason.

Yes.But there is a bit of demon there if I am not mistaken.

There is a Torah of Zillah apparently and here is a quote from a translation you might like

" And be not as salesmen for YHWHs word"

If that was the reasoning does that not mean early christians discovered evolution?

No, a scientist had to tell them what genes were first. :pac:

It's bloody weird innit? I would take it as evidence that their culture was much less literalist than ours. They didn't read the creation myth literally so it didn't matter much to them that this detail was missing.

Oh right, so the reason they're constantly wrong isn't that they're wrong...it's because their culture is "less literalist" than ours.

Noah was a wild man after a few drinks. After the flood he planted a vinyard.

given the ark etc wouldnt that make noahs sons the "fathers" of humanity so isnt that the starting point??
