my only symptom is that if i eat rich or spicy food after about 6-7pm and then go to bed around 10-11pm i wake up around 2-3am with the most god awful acidic taste in my throat like the taste of puke x10, difficulty breathing and an uncontrollable urge to cough my lungs up which usually results me me coughing so hard that i end up throwing up.

i then have a sore throat for a couple of days and usually sore ribs etc. from all the coughing and it will take a couple of days before the taste is gone from my thoat. sometimes there are other things too like, occasionally the puking is hard enough that i burst lots of tiny blood vessels in my face (looks like lots of little red pin pricks all over my face) and once i even ruptured a big one in my eyeball which looked pretty nasty.

i've been for a consult at the local hospital thinking i had an ulcer and the doc said it was probably a hiatus hernia and i'm going in for an endoscope and ultrasound at the end of august, but i'm just wondering if that's what it sounds like as i'm sitting here having been woken up by it tonight. :(

i have no discomfort normally (until i wake up coughing/puking) and no other symptoms that i'm aware of, no burping or anything like that that i've heard people can sometimes get.

i had a bit of acid when i went to bed so i took a zantac and it wasn't that bad when i woke up and a good glug of gaviscon seems to have sorted it now and i didn't puke or anything this time, so i'm off to bed again, but i wanted a few opinions on if it does sound like a hiatus hernia or if it sounds like it could be something else.
