Hi, I am thinking of getting sky plus so just have a few queries

    1. I understand the sky plus box has an optical out, will this enable me once plugged into the back of my amp to enjoy 5.1 sound from programmes broadcasting in this, as the guy I rang from sky Ireland says only the HD boxes do this.

2.Does the sky box have component connections.

3.Will anytime TV come with a subscription of my choosing.

    4. Will sky just give you a box of there choice or can you pick a box of your choice and if so what are ones to go far.

    5. Has the box to be connected to the phone as phone socket is not in my viewing room.

    6. I got an offer of €50 euro incl. installation, is this a decent or shall I hold out for a better if anyone knows of one.

    7. How long from ordering to installation on average.

    8. Is sky news one of the channels that comes as an extra with any package as they have it on their website as a channel that comes with news and events pack.

Apologies in advance if some of these questions have been answered before, many thanks to all who reply

    1. The optical out will output 5.1 sound but only on the movie channels. You need HD for 5.1 output for Sky 1 HD and the sports channels.

    2. No component on Sky+ box. There is component on the HD box.

    3. Anytime is automatic on all Sky+ Sky+HD boxes. It may "record" stuff that you do not have a sub for such as movies.

    4. I had a pace Sky+ box prior to getting Thompson HD box. Never had a problem with it.

    5. Phone line is only necessary for multi room, however it may cost more if you don't have a phone line available.

    6. €50 is a good enough offer for installation, depending on the price of the box.

    7. No idea how long the wait is.

    8. Sky News is free on all packages. It is a free to air channel so doesn't need a sub at all.

I had mine installed a month ago and the waiting time for instaliation at the moment is around 2 weeks. I think you can get it installed quicker if you hassle them a bit about it a bit.

Yeah might do that, did you choose your own sky+ plus box or was it the case of you get what your given.

Most/All of new SkyHD boxes don't have component outputs anymore. I think it was removed for copy protection reasons (not sure though).

I went for the sky+ today it was €50 for box incl. installation and a months free viewing on my chosen package, I there anything I should look out for on the installation like low grade boxes, short cuts etc... also I need all the wiring in the attic will they do that or are they not insured for that and would they put in a magic eye in another room

Minor point here but you wont' be able to record any channel onto your sky+ hard drive without a subscription

If you've ordered from Sky directly, it's unlikely that their installers will go into your attic. Unless you're very lucky..

I was given a cost of €99 for Sky+ Box and €100 for installation, I told them all they do is drive and hand on the box and drive away. I then said that my brother got a Sky+ Box, which he did, for only €49 incl installation costs. The Person from Sky said i should get an Sky+ HD Box, isaid i didn't have an a HD TV yet.... what is it per month and do you have to pay the HD cost for first year.

No charge to remote record from PC as far as Im aware but I could be wrong. I think the only remote record option that costs is the text option which is 25c a message I think.
