I don't think you can generalise about Halfords - for every story about good service there'll be a few about disasters!

I use them a bit and they're fine - you just need to know what you want - I wouldn't be going in looking for advice.

I bought a Boardman from them and it's a great bike to my mind and so far the after-sales service from Halfords has not been disappointing.

Halfords has some **** staff, all bike shops have SOME **** staff who know **** all IMO. Its just halfords have shops everywhere, so there are more examples of **** staff. Im sure halfords find it hard to get good mechanics in and people who know stuff about bikes as it seems more retail orientated. Thats not to say they are all crap.

Halfords sell **** bikes, so to the ignorant they only stock **** bikes. Now if you were to give them a chance you would realise that they stock alot of high end brands and can also order in professional quality bikes.
I found out last year that they are the only stockist of Rocky Mountain in Ireland, they can also get Norco(both quality canadian MTB).
Then you would find out that, due to the bad press they get from internet warriors, there are some cracking deals some times, The best I got was a Banshee for e160 gift!:):D My car is with AXA, so thats a 15% off anything too.

From my experience halfords arent bad, I knew some lads who worked there, who have gone onto bike shops, which are mentioned here as being very good:rolleyes:

Look at the best bike shops thread, there is bitching there, look at the cyclogical thread, its one big bitch.

I know Im gunna get questioned by the elite on this:rolleyes:

We should save this for friday.

Carrera, Kona, GT, Boardman. Stick to these bikes in halfords and you will be fine.

Stay away from the other gick, apollo and trax(probably a few more **** brands)

Look at the Carrera Subway 1 if you are just commuting and want to go to the park for a cycle.
