Does anyone know what is the cause of a LCD screen going completely white, even with the cable disconnected from the computer?

Is it a Compaq Armada? Do you mean when its turned on its all litup but white? Could be a failed graphics connector to the motherboard or inverters messed up. Best bring it to a Pc repair shop.

With the cable disconnected you can rule out the PC.
When you power on the screen can you normally get a menu or setup on it by pressing a button. If that doesn't display then the fault is with the screen itself.

Post the make/model and we will try to help.
