ACCA F2 and F3

    Hi

I am just about to start ACCA and am 99% sure that I won't be exempt from F2 (Managment Accounting) and F3 (Financial Accounting). I am not sure about the rest of my exemptions.

Are F2 and F3 good subjects to start my ACCA studies with and are they suitable to study simultaneously? I ask because I was advised that if it's possible, it is best to do 1 practical and 1 theory based subject together.

Also, which college would be the best one to study these subjects at?

    Thanks for any help

For me both papers should be attempted together it is your basic understanding of mgt & financial accounting. Both papers are tough work but you need to think past these to your next set tax ,law etc. These papers are meaty in their own right but mainly theory based.

I always studied at DBS and would not hesitate in pointing you in their direction

Yep, F2 and F3 can both be studied at the same time, that would be a good way to go about it.

Anyone I know has done it that way. Have heard good things about DBS.

    Cheers.

That's great to know that they are suitable subjects to do together. Are they mainly theory based? I would have thought that they were more practical but then again I have'nt done them yet!

Also, does anyone know how good Independent Colleges are for these subjects?

Independent Colleges: Olwyn O'Dowd and Sandra Gleeson
DBS: James Browne and Patrick Lynch

I will probably go to either Indepedednt or DBS for both subjects

    Thnaks for any input

I gave grinds to students doing those courses in Indep. College, and the material that the college gave to students had plenty of errors in the solutions. They are a young institution, and they would need to fix that if they are to avoid antagonising students in the future.

I don't think anyone can or should comment on lecturers by name here though.

PS you are correct, they are more practical than theoretical courses, I would guess the split at 70/30 in favour of practical questions.

Were them notes for F2 and F3 subjects may I ask?

I wouldn't have dreamt of asking for comments on individual lecturers but I've seen it on previous threads and it didn't seem to be a problem.

Cheers,I did think they were pretty practically based subjects but the first response I got here said the were more theory focused so I just wanted to clarify that.

    Thanks

    I see!

Did your grinds students say what the college was like for the classes?

Yep, no problems with the classes, and facilities are good. Just some of the written material was not up to scratch. This may not be a problem if you are totally on top of the course, or if you are getting grinds. But it can easily confuse many people, and ACCA exams are hard enough without this extra unnecessary hassle!

    that's great.

to be honest, I'm swaying more towards Independent Colleges. I was at a couple of ACCA Open Evenings and was very impressed with that college.

I am taking on board what you are saying about the notes though!

What are the actual subjects like? u must have been good at them to be giving grinds!

Yeah, just be mindful of the situation with the notes, and you'll do well with Independent.

F2 and F3 are both reasonably tough, but it depends on whether you've studied any accountancy before as well. Even if you haven't, you'll get there, but they are both pretty rigorous courses. Which of course you would expect with professional accountancy exams! :D
