Removing a Car Radio

    Hi,

I'm trying to remove a "Seat Sound System 3905 RDS Reverse" car radio from an 01 VW Polo (Seat radio in a VW? Don't ask me how it got there :)). Anyway, I'm by no means an expert at this lark but I have two of those u-shaped thingies for removing car radios (googling would suggest they're called DIN tools) so I tried to remove the radio with these but I can't seem to get the tools to 'click / engage' with whatever catch / clip they need to engage with in the radio to allow the radio to slip out smoothly - they fit into the appropriate holes in the car radio fine, just no click / engage. The DIN tools were old ones that were lying around from another radio put into another car by somebody else in the dim and distant past.

So what I'd like to know is.... are these DIN tools universal? If so, what am I doing wrong or is there a knack to using them and if they are not universal, how can I know which ones I need?

    Thanks,
    super_freddie.

Similar issue myself. Need to get my hands on din release keys. Nearly drove myself mad trying the coat hanger treatment last night. Anywhere I can buy the keys in d1 or 2? I presume they're only a couple of quid.

Don't bother buying them. I cut up a clothes hanger into 2 U shapes and rounded the ends of them with a hammer and the radio (focus) came out no hassle at all. Once they engage on the clips use the tips of your fingers around the edge of the radio and out she'll come

I've had to do this on a couple of occasions, once with a VW and once with a SEAT.

I went into VW parts in Belgard about buying keys, the guy just told me to run out and do it there and then and drop them back in to him.

SEAT just said to drop up and one of the mechanics would have the keys and they'd pop it out for me.

o/p i have removed lots of different car radios using a set of these keys i bought on ebay a while back. most recently from a ford focus. it can be a bit tricky, most of the radios you just popped in the keys and pulled the radio out but with the focus a heard no click either! took me ages to figure out that the keys just slid in and then you just pushed both of the keys(by the U part) in towards each other and this released the catchs of the radio and she just popped out! worth a try.
