Oldish estate car

Hi all I’m looking at getting an oldish estate car, around 10 yrs old. I’ll be using it mainly for transporting the dogs and just carting things home from DIY store and garden centre. It won’t be my main car just something big that I won’t mind getting dirty inside when I need to move thigs. Was looking at either Focus or Mondeo probably go diesel. Any one has any ideas of pros and cons of the Focus or Mondeo or maybe something completely different

If it's not going to be used much, Diesel may be a bit pointless if it'll cost you more to buy.

I have a 96' Toyota Corolla 2.0L diesel Japanese import. It is without a doubt the best, most reliable car I've ever driven. Its flown thru 2 NCTs since I've had it and is now up to 260'000KM. I transport gear( I play in a band) and also bring my collie around with no problems. I put the backseat down and have a custom cut sheet of marine ply that I put down to protect the floor. Great car!!

If you're going to be luggin stuff about and its not going to be your regular everyday car, why not get something like this:

Just take out the back seats or fold them when you need to move a load.
Taller than an estate and originally designed as a van so have mountains of space in em. Could also throw on a towbar too for additional load lugging capacity.

Don't do it to yourself. That thing had the dubious honour of being the slowest car you could buy new at the time. Just buy a van rather than this which would be the worst of both worlds, very high road tax, bone shaking ride, noisey, rough and slow.
