    Hi everyone.

I'm having problems at work and I'd really appreciate some advice from anyone who has been there or knows anything about it.

First some background info. I'm working in a holiday type hotel which takes on seasonal staff from April until October. I took the job in April, as a waitress/barmaid. I was the first staff waiting staff member they (Manager and assistant manager) took on. The hotel is part of a chain. The original agreement was tht I would be given 40+ hours a week, as I explained that I'm saving for college.

Now everything was going relatively well, I was getting 40 hours a week roughly, as were my co-workers. Than 3 weeks ago the assistant managers little sister came to work here. The assistant manager does the work rota. I'm payed minimum wage by the hour. The week this girl arrived i had 30 hours. The following week I had 13. I paid my employer more on rent that week than I got paid!!! There are three waitresses and the other two, (one of which was the sister), were given roughly 40. The following week I had 18 hours, then the next week I had 28. The other girl has been getting roughly 42 ours a week and the sister has been getting 48+!!!!!!

So my question is is there any laws or anything regarding this type of favoritism?? Or is it frowned upon?? Or, worse still, is it OK to do something like that?? Because it is so ridiculously unfair I can't get over it!!

Thanks very much in advance for your replies.

speak to the assistant manager and ask why the rota is so biased and see what they say / do , go to the manager if it doesn't change. Crap situation to be in but you need to stand up for yourself or it'll just go on indefinately.

    good luck
