You And The Dark Night!!!

Are you afraid of the dark? I know it is a question all of us have has been asked or asked others at some point in our lives. Well are you?

I can honestly say that I have never been afraid of the dark. Even as a small child I used to disappear and go walking in the evening. I even sneaked out of my home when I was 10 and my parents never knew I was gone. I had walked up to a local forest, been gone over an hour and had climbed back into my bedroom window and they never knew a thing (I had left it open when I left).

Only a few years ago a friend of mine had left her bag in the forest where we stayed one weekend. She only realised it late at night. I went out after 11pm in the pitch dark, went to the campsite and came home with it. I never thought anything of it to suddenly head off and retrieve it.

So what about you guys? Are you comfortable in the dark or do you prefer some light when it’s very dark.

I've never been bothered by the dark in the countryside ... it's never truly dark anyway.

I'm not so enamoured of moving from bright light into say a dark side alley in a city ... though I'd describe that as a healthy element of caution rather than an irrational fear!

I love the darkness. I feel truly alive being out in total or near total darkness.

I'm afraid of the dark - always have been. Had to have the landing room light on, although I've gotten a little better as I've gotten older. But being outside in pitch dark I can get scared. Like there's things in the dark.

See now that's why I like being out in total darkness. I am one of the things in the dark.

Dunno what it is, it's like things are closing in, and I don't feel secure.
Also my night vision is UBER crap, for all the carrot I ate as a child and still eat.

See, I tend to rely more on my ears and nose when out late at night.

Well I wear glasses 24/7 since I was about 5 so I don't like my sight being further limited. My hearing wasn't great when I was younger either but obviously we do use our other sense when one's being repressed.

I understand that. I need to get glasses to be able to drive apparently.

Aye? Well better to be safe. I wouldn't be able to get the key in the lock without my glasses!

I used to be afraid of the dark as a wee one because I kept seeing shadowy people... Kinda stopped as I got a bit older, don't mind it at all at all now. In fact I prefer night time to day time.

I like the dark best because it leaves so many options open.
    Also all the pretty stars:pac:

Its not the dark you should fear, its the things in the dark.

    :D
Seriously, no, i live in the wildlands, and have spent lots of time in the dark there. Seen some od crap there too, but its not as unnerving as the city. when im in the city, i pay much more attention to whats happening.

Despite not having the greatest sight generally, I do ok in the dark. Too bright light on the other hand kind of dazzles me.

I'm the total opposite. Leave me in the country and my eyes are peeled for any trees that might attack me, while I'll happily wander through cities in the dark, oblivious to any danger.*

*Note: This does not apply to Buenos Aires or any city in South America for that matter. I watched my fcuking back in those places. And that had nothing to do with time.

Just back. Some great replies there guys. Cheers. When I was living in the UK I was reading a horror/ghost novel and felt I couldn't relate to the story. So I decided to book into a haunted hotel for the night. It was a great experience and it gave me a great perspective. It was during the winter as well, so plenty of darkness.

I would love to stay in a haunted hotel style place some time...

I have bad eyesight and have worn glasses from age 10 until i started using contacts 8months ago...wierd enough was the fact me and my friends liked to hang out at night in abandoned buildings and haunted areas for fun haha!:D

I love the dark of the night. I'm fortunate in that the window of my flat faces the back garden and not onto the main road. At night often the only light I see is the moon - Goddess excellently bright!

Went out to do a little stargazing tonight. Unfortunately it's misty and no stars!!! :(

Meh, I'm not afraid of the dark, but I'd prefer it to the brightness.

Just looking out my window seeing nothing but black is soothing in a way . . . well it is for me!!

    /storms out

    You had your chance.....:P
    It was awesome.
I prefer no artificial light, I have very good night vision as well as keen sense of smell and hearing.
