    Hi All,
I am interested in purchasing a new road bike and have been looking at a few online. I'm willing to spend around the 500 to 600 euro mark so was wondering if you could give me any advice as I know very little about the different specs etc?
The two bikes that interest me are the Claud Butler San Remo 2009 or the Focus Variado Compact 2009.
I'm really only planning on using the bike for fitness and work commute so don't want to over spend either.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

Both are true entry level machines but the Focus would be the better bike, at least the higher end Focus bikes are decent on the other hand none of the Claud Butlers rise beyond complete and utter mediocrity even their new Carbon frame which feels like its filled with cement its that heavy. In this range the most popular machines are the Giant Defy, Trek 1.2 and Specialized Allez. Good luck finding a 09 one though...

in an identical situation to hal123, anyone selling sh due to upgrading send me a PM

know nothing about roadbikes so any advice most welcome on names brands specs what to look for etc.

also I'm guessing that you can buy the bike in kit form over the internet assemble it yourself and probably save a bit over the price in the shop, all links appreciated

based in clonmel by the way

used to do a lot of cycling on mountain bikes in my teens but due to college and no bike kind of gave it up, thinking about taking it up again now though, be good exercise
