Looking to start either one, im 5,11 23, stocky, complete beginner. I live in rathfarnham so the closer the better. I want to get good enough to compete as im very interested in the competition aspect, anyone know any clubs or advice they can give about each sport?

Boxing, it's not even close. Assuming ou have a good coach that is. Boxings combination of footwork, motion and strategy can not be beat. That's why the top MMA guys are looking more and more like boxers (and losing to someone with good boxing skills, see Bisping vs Hendo)

kickboxing if you new what your talkin about does not only involve the use of foot pads or pillows on your feet as you call them and is fought at a much higher pace than thai and boxing!!
boxing altho is very technical and i would recommend it to start with it goes hand in hand with kickboxing then once devolped thai is too relaxed and open gaurded to do boxing with
