It isn't hunting and it isn't vermin control. I wonder what is the point of it. On the plus side there is a certain excitement in replicating real hunting and there is something to be admired in the speed and agility of the hounds and the hare. On the minus side, it looks like a mild form of animal terrorism with gambling on the side. Maybe we should have advanced beyond hare coursing at this stage??

I dont do hare coursing nor am i interested in doing it, but everyone to their own. Seems a bit cruel to me but why bother them if they dont bother me shooting one (in season). Clonmel is good though;)

In no way intrested in coursing, doesnt bother me but doesnt appeal to me either but the lad that wrote this i believe is the same John Fitzgerald of Callan, i think the former head of the anti blood-sports council.

You my see his letters from time to time appearing in the times and independant, i remember one year close to christmas he stated that most "hunters are out blasting away at any quarry they see, including song birds such as the wonderful robbin, does this bird not need protecting from these murderous scum", or words to that effect.

Needless to say my letter rebutting his ridiculous rantings was not punlished by either paper, but i believe a leter was published stating that animals could not be murdered in the eyes of the law as they were not human beings.

Guy has been knocking around for 25 years plus ranting and raving about coursin, hunting, shooting and whatnot.
Been booted out of ICABS for a little incident in Glin a few years ago,and NOT what he describes in his little book.
He is moving abit into the political world nowadays.[Proably because he got the internet in Callan].Al in all he is about as important as the mating habits of ameobas in the big picture of things. He is another example of an anti overdoing things on the letter writing front

In fairness coursing took most of the heat from this guy and the anti's for many years.
But with one deft move, muzzling, they left them in there wake.
A bit like what you'd see at most coursing meets.
In reality coursing is fairly tame, dogs are muzzled, the hare is given plenty of law and usually only puts in a turn or 2 before escaping. Check it out on you tube, i think most would be surprised at how tame the whole thing is. Last years NPWs report showed hare mortality from coursing is less than 1% and makes no difference to the overall population.
I think the more these groups go after coursing the more the blow themselves out wasting time and effort.
they organised a "huge" protest on the first day of Clonmel last year and 15 of them turned out!
