Can you take the elastics off your braces for a couple of hours?

Do you have to wear elastics on your braces all of the time? im planning on hitting the town tonight for the first time since i got these elastics on to aline the teeth naturally i don't want to wear them into a club or anything because their not the most attractive looking devices anyway would it be ok to take them off…

I've elastics that connect my top palate to my bottom, nd often take them off to eat etc, then accidently forget to put them back on. No major damage caused lol
