Star/Ares SA80 internals question.

I'm going to order the above AEG in the next week or two and I have an upgrade option that I'm not sure to go with or not.

The reason I'm asking is because I have no idea what the stock internals are like on the Star/Ares SA80s. I have come across site that stock all the parts needed if any fail, motors, gears, hop units etc.

The ''upgrade option is to have fitted:
    Marui EG1000 Short motor,
    Guarder bushes,
    systema shims,
    TM hop rubber,
Piston and Piston Head for Marui piston,
and I will be getting a 1J spring fitted anyway.

So should I stick with the standrd config or go with above option?
I have considered the G&G SA80 and I have already decided to go with the Star because I think it has a more realistic finish.

Firstly, the Star/Ares isnt the same gun...

There is an Ares Sa80a2, and a STAR made by ares. The original star had a plethora of problems, However, like thier new run of g36s, and (some Tar-21s, the new ares sa80a2 is actually a decent gun out of the box... with the quick change spring, drop a 328 spring in and use it as is... dont upgrade it till it NEEDS it. Because it will work well... ive had an ares next to a star, and while they look the same externally, inside is a massive difference.

Beware though, Ares sa80s listed at the star price are just renamed by the store, the cheaper model is the Ares gun, and the better one ironically.

I would have te oposite opinion to be honest, all the ares and star ive seen are the same and that is, a bit sh1t,
if i remember correctly these ones don't have the blowback feature seen on the G&G and the Army Armaments. however if your thinking of adding the H&K launcher this will only fit on the star, to fit it on the others you'll need to do a small bit of modding.

The finish is nice on the star, more realistic than the others but like the rest of them, it suffers with fire select problems. I would just buy the army one since its so cheap and besides the fire select problems, its actually a pretty reliable gun.

As I said igor dear, you may have seen the star stock ares versions... not the specific ares ones... belive me, there is a vast difference inside.

The g&g is nice when its not got the blowback though...
I have an Army a1, and its a good weapon when toyed with, but im not as big an external perfectionist, its quite realistic enough for me, but then i didnt really pay specific attention to the real ones in any greater detail than point this way and press here...

I'm not really bothered with the blow back function, besides I'd most likely have it disabled most of the time or risk having the small spring break in two and knowing my luck, end up going into the open top G&G gear box.

I don't know of many peeps with the Army version but there was two or three members here saying that they basically fell apart on the field, butt plates turning orange ''as if the rubber was rusting some how:D''. Another guy said his basically came out of the box in pieces. I don't know to what extent ''falling apart'' and ''in pieces'' is in reality or exaggerated but Eirsoft stopped stocking the Army version because of the amount of faulty returns.

I'll do a bit more digging on the current state of the Ares and Star versions as I think I will be adding an AG SA80 to the collection down the line.

I've got the AA A1, tis is grand piece, yes the buttplate does rust but it wipes off if you care that much. I disabled the blowback when i got it. Its a decent aeg, fires straight and true, as long as you get a working one :D

from what i can gather, ares always supplied them, even the star ones since star only design them, then there was a falling out of some sort. If you have a Star from the last 2 years then its been built by ares up until the falling out, when star started cutting ares out of the loop and going to their source.

Ares then released an upgraded gearbox shell which realistically isnt going to be any different, since the original was metal and decent anyway.
Externally Star/Ares have the high ground, but internally, G&G and Army. since you get rock solid components and blowback. (which isnt a good thing if you fire left handed.)

they did make them for star yes, to thier spec, *sigh* but the new ares sa80s aer different to the one they originally produced for star is my point... and work.

Not supposed to be fired from the left shoulder in RL anyway.

As said above go get a G&G or Army, you'd be better off

I think im the luckyest girl in airsoft... I somehow dont manage to get the lemons people talk about... (Well except one! hehe) my Tar-21 works... my army sa80 works perfectly... both are excelent aegs. Hell my sa80 buttplate went a tad orange... did i care? well, its not that big a deal to be honest. As for falling apart? its pretty secure to my eyes.

Yes but this isnt the army so we like to be able to use the gun as we want. Not being suitable for a lefty is stupid. ya have to get bac away fro the charge handle be avoid it but then you cant get near the sights.

Didn't yours have a blowback problem? I thought it was yourself i was talking to about a part that was missing from your blowback mech.

Yeah, the bit the mech hooks to the bolt was missing, not exactly a problem... but the gun wasnt new... it performs perfectly. Its not like i wanted it to blow back for more than the ocasional 'hehe it moves' moment.

Sure aren't lefties ment to be more creative, such as being able to use a gun right handed if they have to.:pac:

I sometimes use conventional guns fitted with dot sights left handed as I'm very left eye dominant and it's the only way I can aim with both eyes open, just can't do it from my right shoulder unless I turn my head so my left eye lines up with the sight.

i can use any rifle, pistol, etc left or right handed. being ambidextrous is excelent fun :D

Yeah i agree with ya, I am a lefty and i can shoot as good right handed as i can lefty. but my point being that you are limited and have to shoot righty, I would switch hands all the time depending on the corner i'm at and when i was messing around with the G&G SA80 without thinking, I ended up getting the charge handle in the nose. lol.

Just took a look around a few sites and the Ares is hard enough to find. The Star SA80 is €165 in a few different sites, wgc, ehobby, uncompany etc. Fire-Support have it for €375!!:D and you can't put it down to old stock prices as they are out of stock.

The only place is saw the Ares was on wgc and it was more expensive than the Star!

The Ares was €175 and sold out while the Star was in stock and €165, odd that or Ares don't have as much stock on the market under their name as Star do.

    I bought a Star SA80 (L85 A2) from Fire- Support a few years back.
I never did the suggested upgrade package, and never had any problems with it at all. I used it as my main weapon for over 2 years.
I have sold it on to a team member in the UK and it is still going strong.
    Highly recommend the STAR.
