socialising dogs

I am having a real problem socialising my dog. I only got him and he is 7 months old and very excitable. I try to keep my energy relaxed and waiting for him to relax.. he is not quite aggressive wants to play with dogs but then trys to mount them/ dominate them.. think he just needs socialising?? every time he sees a dog he pulls and he is very strong. i tried getting him to sit as the dog approaches which he does till the dog comes closer, then he is totally focused on the dog and there is no speaking to him. I tried distracting im when he sees the dog. ie: tippng him and diverting attention to me.. which works again till we get closer to dog, or if dog is off leasgh and comes over!! it is making walking him a nightmare and i do try to relax when i see a dog as i know if i tense it makes things worse but it is very hard when the result is the same 90 percent of the time! Does anyone have ANY ideas at all about how to relieve this situation as it is driving me nuts. He is obedient usually but when he gets exited won't listen. i realise he is a pup.. and hoping he will relax, but am worried it will escalate into aggression if left unchecked! HELP!!

I think hes a bit old for puppy socialising classes, but id try a different trainng class or something. Dog training Ireland have loads of great ones up on there website.

I had the same problems with a pup I had before and brought him to similar classes back home, he didnt really need the training as I had already trained him, but being in a room with so many dogs/puppies he finally calmed around them and when out walking they didnt bother him anymore. He was just so used to other dogs being around.

7 months is actually a perfect time to get your dog socialised. The pup is in between being a baby and a young child (if he were human). Goodluck :)

does anyone know a place to go to help socialise him. I can't let him loose in the park as i don't think dog owners would be too happy with that and due to his large size people are a bit wary of him, especially when he gets excited! i saw someone mentioned the place in Blanchardstown that takes the dog for the day?? can anyone recommend that?

Dog Training Ireland are the guys in Blanch who run the Doggie Day Care. I havent used this service but I did go to their training classes with my two and they are brilliant! Look into it, your dog will love it!
