plumbing Query

Have stated the house and have subfloor poured. Plumber coming on Monday to put in waste pipes before we put in 125mm xtratherm in the floor. After the insulation is in he is putting in underfloor pipes all over the ground floor and we then pour the finished floor.

My query is that i wanted to plumb for radiators aswel just in case something went wroing with the underfloor or we just didn't like it etc. I thought it would be worth it as it would only be a few rolls of piping and they could be stopped just before the come over the floor and we could just crack the floor over the pipes down the line if we ever needed the rads.

However the plumber said that the rad pipes would have to be put under the insulation and would mean that the insulation would therefore not be installed properly or that there would be loads of cutting in to get it around the pipes. He then suggested that i could pour sand over all the pipes under the inulation, whack it and then place the 125mm insulation on the sand.i.e flat surface to put the insulation on. Not happy with this as loose sand under a floor can only spell trouble.

Is there anything else we could do?? could the radiator pipes and the underfloor pipes be place d on top of the insulation or would this affect efficency of the UFH.

    Thanks

Why would hot pipes be put on the cold side of the insulation?

Rad pipes can be put on the same level as the UFH pipes just keep them to the perimeter. The question here is why put in both, I know your reasoning but I think you should go see enough of both systems in operation now and decide which you want based on enough discussions with the people who have them in.

It's not just a case of putting the pipework in now for a radiator system. The system of radiators will have to be designed and chosen, the pipework put in place and all pipes blanked off, their positons measured and marked on a plan for future reference, and all this work which may never be used, it's a waste, imo.

I agree, this // heating system had a fair bit of cost associated with the steps outlined by P_U_T .

U will also find that herself will design the interior based on free walls and she wont thank u for saying u cant put the ??? there because we might have a rad:( which to access we need to dig up that (expensive) Italian marble tiling

IMO its time think it through and get off the pot:) If in doubt go rads and forget about the ufo

If u do persist with the // system u may as well put in the rads and have the work done now
