Planning on getting an ak-47 (should say airsoft gun that looks like ak-47)

Anyone have one of these? Was thinking of these rifles cause they look ridiculously awesome:D

I heard the m4 is the way to go but whats your opinion:confused:

the thing about airsoft is you will end up with both ! ask any one here.
Ak is great fun , M-4 well there are just sooooooooooooo many bits you can add ! I would advise go to a site talk to the gamers then go to any of the retailers they won't steer you wrong .

i got the G36k and ak74 with an m4 on the way.. so these 3 guns are by far the most common..

Everyone and their mother has an m4.

If you are torn between both, get the AK, otherwise you and everyone you skirmish will have the same gun, probably identical bdu's, masks etc.

I had an m4, and had to get rid when I got sick of being another member of the m4 brigade.

Also, theres never been a better time to get an AK, kalash and cyma both do VFC style aims, akms, ak74s etc. so there's a huge choice of top notch clones.

Get an AKM rather than an AK47, the most common 'ak47' is the AKM, the media etc. just call it an ak47 even though they were soon replaced by the AKM, which is also what all the other kalashnikov using countries copied, none use the ak47 really, and if they do, its an exception.

Stercus, by the way, is an AK fanboy. Not a bad thing per sé, but it's a tad biased.

I'm not going to argue on behalf of M4's (I actually agree they're ridiculously common but people like them so who cares) and I'm not detracting from AK's, but there's hundreds of unconsidered options in so many shapes and forms.
Here's what you should do. Get to one of the many airsoft retail stores dotted around the country. The majority will have at least one of everything you are considering, from AK and M4 variants to Sigs, G36's, Type 89/97's, p90's and plenty more you may not have even heard of. Manhandle a few and see which one you prefer and which one is most comfortable for you to hold. You never quite know what you like until you've gotten a hands-on experience with it. I've seen plenty take the SCAR over the M4, or the UMP over the MP5, or vice versa. All after being dead set on what they want.

in gaming terms, there is NO advantage between the m4 and ak.

both can take big or small batteries, the ak has a larger hicap mag, but they are harder to find vests for, well no, limiting. the m4 has more 'toys' apparently. but I can count on less than one hand how many of those gucci toys are any use at all in skirmishing... a torch? maybe, a vert grip? not neceserily useful, sometimes a hinderance. anything else? pointless fluff.

Both guns shoot the same at 328fps, so neither is 'better'

choose the one you like the look of most, its your call.

Personally I dont own a single m4... but i own 3 rifles that take stanag (m4/m16) mags... easy to stow, midcaps is midcaps... and well, they work.

SA80, Tar-21, and M16vn can all use the same mag, is one consideration I help to choose weapons... saves me buying more of another type eh? Just an example.

For clarity though, I started with an mp5 PDW, then had an M4 for a good while, I was totally unbiased back then.

I still say that if you equally like both aeg's, get the less common one, theres no joy in a game full of m4's including yourself, and the idea that they are customisable is silly, you end up with people trying to be different anyway, but now just with silly attachments.

Honestly, with new Cyma's and Kalash AK's out, there is no way you'd be disappointed with an AK clone.

The above is true, you may want a SCAR after messing with one, or any other rifle in store, heck, you may even want an M4 afterwards.

At the end of the day it comes down to what feels best to you, everyone can give their opinion but until u go in and get a feel for certain guns you wont know, i have seen lads have to have a scar have to life depends on it only to buy one and sell it a month later, me M16 m4's & MP5's love them some of the guys are going mad for Tavors, most hideous gun i have ever seen but they like them so what ever floats your boat. like the lads said above go to a retailer have a good look around and if you do make the wrong choice its a lesson learned.

Come to a skirmish. I think most people are still happy to let you have a close look and try of their AEG. They all make there own distinctive sound which is another thing to consider.
