Khan IMO has great potential but he still has a lot to learn and even more to prove.

His ig strengths are his speed with his hands and feet.
He is savage at avoiding punches and like i say his hand speed is great.
negatives is that he doesnt have amazing punching power, like he won't knock many of the top guys he will be fighting now. Before he was fighting journey men and punters an lapping the plaudits of the British public.

The best thing that could have happened to him was his loss and changing trainers.
I can see Amir Khan going a long way and achieving something special
if he improves a little bit more.
ps im not sure about his shorts:D
also why is he allowed to wear boxing gloves with Reebok on them?

An extremly talented fighter who is eager to learn and willing to adapt. What more could a trainer ask for!!! The only thing is his chin, im not sold on the notion that its gonna be much better at 140.

He is a world champ now and I just hope its not too early in his career to have such a belt and mix in that kind of company. Id like to see him in winnable but respectable fights should he wish to keep the belt. (I really dont wanna see him against Morales or any other faded legend, its just not right)

Id like to see him with the likes of Peterson a wee bit down the line when they are bigger names. And I wouldnt rule out Marquez if he loses to pbf and a Hatton fight at some stage.

    eg:
    september - november 2009
Manny vs cotto = manny wins
floyd vs marquez = floyd wins
Kahn makes his us debut = wins

    ppv event early 2010

    Manny vs floyd main fight
    khan vs marquez cheif support

Thats considering the powers that be decide that Kahn - marquez could be a hatton-tszyu affair.Marquez being slightly past it and 140 being a little big. Marquez could be lured with the promise of a shot at Manny if he wins or Hatton.

Hatton says he would fight jmm if he beat floyd but come on... win lose or draw marquez is as big as it gets for Hatton at this stage.

So basically marquez and khan could act as a "hatton eliminator" which is a massiver pay day and maybe ricky needs that long away from the ring if he is to come back.

I agree with all that has been said; great potential but still
    learning.

Marcos Maidana should be next up for Khan, he knocked the head of Victor Ortiz is what was a thrilling contest. Ortiz said after the fight that he may have to rethink his career, he's only 22! But the Khan team will never fight Maidana because they only know too well what will happen, it's shame really because Maidana deserves a shot he has 27 fights 26 wins 25 by way of knockout, if you can watch him fight Ortiz on youtube.

I rate Khan highly as a person, seems to be fairly grounded for a 22 year old - as a boxer fantastic speed and good power, in his weight division all around him are about 30 years old, thats an excellent achievement in my book - lately his career has spookily mirrored the mighty Dunnes - both beat average opposition with ease and made progress, then both got caught with clean shots (some including myself will argue caught cold) - both returned with handy fights to build confidence then both won world titles - also part of the excitement of currently watching both is the fact that neither man appears invincible and nobody knows eithers true capability and will not know until both fight the big dogs

Bring on the big dogs - next couple of fights will tell a lot about each fighter

He's a good boxer with fast hands and ok power, good accuracy but that chin is so poor that its going to stop him reaching his full potential i feel..

Agreed. I applaud his willingness to fight the best. He's won a world title in 20 or so fights against a respected champ at 140. He has excellent handspeed, good power and is good at sticking to a gameplan. Wish he had a decent chin though. Maybe it's a bit better at 140. He did take some decent shots from Kotelnik.

I know it's a long shot, but the extra weight and maturity and experience may help his "shot recovery." If so, then he will go very far. Excellent boxer!

Good technically gifted fighter!!But will all blow up for him Naseem style because the English press will scrutinies everything he will ever do:eek:.He does have one of the best trainers around and manny is one of his sparring partners

I'd say he'd love to have a career as good as Naseem's !
5 years as a dominant world champ !
Big improvement from being KO'd in 1 round by a nobody.

He has lots of class, speed, decent power, conditioning, hunger but the chin issue is huge. I'd like to see him succeed as I really like the guy, but it's hard to imagine him standing up to flush shots from any hard puncher.

I wondering how he would deal with a pressure fighter like hatton who would keep coming forward at him ?

Hatton will only KEEP coming forward if he doesn't eat leather, and Hatton
does eat leather. He's washed up and past it and would be obliterated by Khan's speed and acuracy. KO or TKO befotre rd 3. No keep coming forward whatsoever

Thats a little harsh on Ricky walshb - I like Khan as a boxer but lets not forget that Hatton was outclased by one of the greatest boxers to live - he beat practically everybody else

I think Khan would hate Rickys style and would always be on the backfoot which is dangerous for any boxer - tough one to call but at this moment I would edge it to Hatton.

I'd go for Hatton to beat Khan also, would be tight though. Khan hasn't been in with someone like Ricky before and I'd doubt his chin has improved much. But in saying that Freddie Roach knows how to beat Hatton, as shown with Manny, before anyone says it, no I'm not saying that Khan will be able to utilise the taactics the way Manny did. I really hope this fight happens!:D

It's not being harsh at all. I like Ricky, but the guy is washed up and was thorougly destroyed in his last fight and was less than impressive in his last few fights. There is no way in hell he will handle Khan's youth and speed and IF he did, then Khan should really reconsider his profession. Hatton is truly a has been!

I'd go with Khan as well but there would be no shame in him losing to Hatton. He would be the hardest puncher that Khan faced by a long way. Khan is a much improved fighter than when he was in with Limond/Gomez etc but he wasnt exactly rock solid with them.

Its hard to tell with Hatton because he just didnt follow the game plan... not even a little bit. If Mayweather fought the same fight that Hatton fought that night he would be outta there in a few rounds also, as would any fighter against Pacquiao.

Hatton was on form against Mallignaggi who imo is the kind of guy Khan should be fighting at 140. Former champ, big name, light puncher.

To be honest Ricky has been a bit of a shambles in the very biggest fights he has fought, and Khan is not in that bracket.

However does Ricky still have it ? I d'ont know.

    Khan could stop him.

Does Hatton still have it? Have what?

BTW, It would be a serious shame if Khan was to lose to
Hatton. It would be the end of Khan's career. If you cannot
get by has been Hatton, what the hell can you expect
    to achieve?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 554 ✭✭✭spongeman

Hatton was a good boxer. Fact. He was also enjoyable to watch.

I think this fight will happen, but I have to agree it would be very bad for Khan if he lost.

    Which probably will not happen.

I wouldnt call hatton a has been.

if we put a 2009 ricky in against a 2004 olivera / tackie do you think he would fare much worse than the 03/04 ricky? His level of oppositin rose steadily and we must remember that he fought mayweather and pac in their prime, and any other name fighter he fought was past it, tzsyu, castillo etc.

Like wise put an 03/04 ricky against an 07 mayweather or 09 pac. Same result methinks.

Agianst Lazcano he looked less than stellar, he looked back to himself against mallignaggi. Against pac it was just too tall an order anyway and I cant think of any other 140 fighter that would blow hatton away in 2 rounds.

On Kahn-Hatton its a massive fight but wouldnt like to see either of them lose.
