reader died in hard drive

    my laptop hd,a sata 250gb has had it!
    it's the second drive fitted and only a year old.
    i got it fitted in pc world. they now tell me that the reader head has failed and say it will be at least 900e to get may data back, didn't back it up.:mad:
    anyway just wondering if anyone knows where i can get this done cheaper. i only want to get my pictures and a few text files back. need help

    really kicking myself cause i was going to back it all up the next day on my new external hd:(
