I wasnt aware there were any pitches available in HC or Shel ?

They rarely come up and Hegarty usually snaps them up when they do.

You would have a better chace of getting a pitch at Mullingar or Newbridge, HOWEVER, crowds there are tiny and turnover wouldn't be worthwhile....
your best off working for a bookie then building your reputation that way.

One extra thing is if you don't know how much you need to begin with it really is the wrong place to look to start a business... the best guys - of the smaller bookies - know trends, trainer ability, trends of the dogs/horses and trends of their relatives...

A few things to consider -
-Some big punters in the greyhound scene reside in Kildare and Dublin, you would have to take their bet, so what would the maximum bet you would accept??
-You would need at least 100,000 before even consider standing anywhere.

The best place to start would either be www.goracing.ie or www.igb.ie to see how to start up as a bookie. They should have the relevant forms. I also think since it's a financial service. Or of course google Bookmakers License Ireland....

What are you working as at the moment??

the on course game is dead with little or no business going on ...A lot of small independents are going to the wall so if i were you i would look to invest the 12k elsewhere or put it into betfair or betdaq and trade with no overheads

That is an excellent idea i think....
12k into Betfair... If you think u can make it as a bookie, you would soon find out if you can with Betfair.... even if u tried 1-2k into B/F that would be a pretty good indication.
