Particularly stupid, as Vermont isn't even in the country where the recession is over.

I reported on this months ago.

While Ireland was going through it Celtic tiger stage - so was Canada.
However those that run Canada made a few wise conclusions and subsequently, decisions.
They realised that the good times might not last for ever so for every Canadian dollar that the gov' took in, they set aside a certain amount of it ...just in case of a rainy day.
They also changed and fortified their tax laws, they closed any loopholes for the white collar criminals and upgraded their accountancy and monetary systems.
They hired actual ground based accountancy firms rather than letting their civil service deal with all the money. They hired people only after strenuous testing and such candidates then going before questioning committees for director positions and advisor's for example, whom would be subsequently be helping out the government.
"Jobs for the boys" was/is a rare thing there.

Canada has had not one banking failure. Not needed any banks to be bailed out.
The industrial business is booming now more so than America, in fact for example, they are producing more cars alone (and selling them) than the Americans and Europeans.
Their health service is regarded as the second best in the world (France the top) and their economy is stable.

...all because they thought ahead - what did our lot do? I don't need to say, we all know...
