Timing chain

Hey all, just purchased a new car today and i was asking about when the timing belt needed to be done. the sales guy stated that the engine had a timing chain and said that it wouldn't need to be changed unitll well over 100k miles! now i havent a clue about timing chains and to be honest only heard of em recently. so i guess my question is is this correct? do timing chains last this long. By the way there's 64k miles on it at the moment. thank for any help.

Yes, read your service handbook for more.
Some timing belts never have to be touched and last the life of the engine.

Yeah, chains last significantly longer than belts, some up to 200k. What sort of car is it?

My car has a timing chain and I was told that it doesn't need to be changed as long as it doesn't make any noises. The tensioners and pulleys can wear on them causing them to rattle but with 156k miles on my car its still sweet as a nut!

thats exactly what i was told high horse. that if it starts to rattle at about 150k miles i have plenty of time to change it. it's a honda accord euro r thanks for the help

The latest Honda accords all have timing chains...I think at least from 2002/2003

I believe the current-gen (2006-onwards) Civics do as well.

What year? Honda only changed to chains recently.

K20 engine in 2003-onwards Euro R has a chain. Before that it's a belt.

How does the cost of changing a chain compare to the cost of changing a timing belt?

apologies for the confusion, in my eyes it's a new car to me. ha but no should of clarified it's a 04.
